Two Roderick Strong questions

I'm watching BOLA 2007 and I'm watching Roderick Strong vs Austin Aries. A very solid match. However, I'm left with two questions.

1- So is there any story behind this one loud mothertrucker calling Roderick 'Eugene' and saying he looks retarded? Is there any particular reason he'd yell this or is he just a drunk jackass?

2- How does yelling "Rooodeerrrriiiccckkk" offensive to him? I guess it's moreso done in ROH but this has bugged me for awhile too. I mean, I like the name Roderick and do see how saying a guy's name would piss him off.

Any answers would be great. And thank god this one chick quit screaming and such during this match. I guess she was just a really big Joey Ryan mark.

1. I haven't gotten to that match yet, so I don't know about the Eugene heckler. I do however want to know what the hell was up with that pregnant girl in glasses and her shirtless boyfriend just to the left of the main camera view. She does not shut up WHATSOEVER. It's really fekkin' annoying, and shes ALWAYS on camera. Ugh.

2. The Rrrrrooooooooooderiiiiiiiiiiiiick chant is just one of those under the skin things, like Darryl Strawberry on The Simpsons.

It's meant to be really irritating and demeaning to him by calling Roooooooooderick. And a drunk guy saying he's Eugene is just an idiot being drunk unless he's making an obscure reference to CM Punk once saying Strong had "freaky retard strength" but I doubt he was being that clever

yeah. They were kayfabe brothers when they were working in Florida(at least I think it was Florida).

yeah. He was still ranked in the PWI top 500 up until about 2006. I think it more one of the those cases where its like "Hey, lets throw a random indy guy on the list to make it not look so biased."

Being there it was because roderick looks like young shaven eugene




also because there's always loud assholes at PWG shows. it's just that the rest of the crowd has a good sense of humor.

Also chanting Rodd-eerrrr-ick is something that I and other PWG fans do.

Thanks for the explanation. Looking at the picks, he does look like Nick Dinsmore. Comparing him to Eugene though just kinda make me go WTF. As for the long name, I'm kosher with that too. But when it's just a single guy, it seems odd. It sounds better as a crowd. I'm pretty sure the same guy yelled "f*** ROH" and with I swear a couple seconds of silence.

I'd like to take the opportunity to note how BRILLIANTLY Roderick sells the "Rrrooooooooderrriiiiiick" chants. They're good heat, and he encourages them so perfectly. Most people who have taken an introductory psychology course might remember that the most effective way to encourage a behavior is by giving a positive reinforcement on a variable interval schedule; that's exactly what Roderick does. He doesn't "reward" the audience with a tantrum after every chant, but he reacts often enough that it's always worth chanting to see if he'll go nuts about it.
