The leaked script confirms the reports that Scott D'Amore is responsible for producing the Knockout's division. And in recent episodes of Impact, the knockout segments are producing the highest ratings of the show.
Despite the star power of various former WWE stars and home-grown stars, not to mention the "Deal or No Deal" briefcase storyline that took place throughout the show, the top-rated quarter hour of the show featured the match between Velvet Sky & Angelina Love vs. Ms. Brooks and Ms. Jackie Moore. Their segment drew an impressive 1.3 rating, which looks to be the high-rated, non-gimmick quarter hour in the history of iMPACT! (non-gimmick means when it's not measuring based on another show, such as the lengthy CSI overrun that ran the week before, or the first quarter hour after UFC's Ultimate Fighter). This marks the second week in a row in which the women's match was the highest-rated portion of iMPACT! as the Gail Kim vs. ODB match with the Awesome Kong run-in gained 165,000 viewers and drew a 1.27 rating. The show's overall rating was a 1.09.
This is now undisputable proof that replacing the old booking team of 2005-2006 with Russo and Mantel with Jarrett having final say was a mistake.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Tracy Brooks told me that Dutch Mantell was "our biggest ally there, and the only reason we even have a women's division."
So the one person not involved n any way with the successful launch of the Knockout's division is Russo.

I'm happy to see that D'Amore is still with them. I had heard that he was fired from TNA.
And I whole heartedly endorse this thread. D'Amore's booking is what really drew me into TNA.

I demand a .gif of Mr. Canadian Bacon barking at the camera. Although, I will have to say that since there are few females on the TNA roster, the Knockout's matches are somewhat gimmicked and the presence of Talia Madison only satisfies the pervert demographic., but D'Amore treats the Knockouts like wrestlers instead of actors in various skits. I would like to see D'amore be given more responsibilities with booking, even if it means more D'Amore on TV.

I actually was one of the few who loved D'Amore's booking of TNA circa 2005. There was a point where the X Division title came across as almost more important than the NWA title.... which I loved.

I don't disagree with this. But in my view, it's kinda like saying pizza is better than a steaming pile of horse s***. Sure it's true, but it doesn't exactly make me want the pizza.

I actually was one of the few who loved D'Amore's booking of TNA circa 2005. There was a point where the X Division title came across as almost more important than the NWA title.... which I loved. Me too. His "Gangs of New York" storyline with Christian (Amsterdam) taking on Jeff Jarrett (Bill the Butcher) is still one of my favorite "periods" in wrestling ever. Oh... I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Russo's characters + D'Amore's stories = wrestling gold. And yes, I will defend that statement if need be. |

If this tells you anything, back when D'Amore was booking, I was way into TNA and watched it every week.
Since Russo took over, I've seen maybe two total Impacts.

Russo's characters + D'Amore's stories = wrestling gold. And yes, I will defend that statement if need be. I'm with you. Russo is one of the best in the business for looking at a wrestler and giving him a character. When you apply those characters in a better paced storyline, you've got perfection. |

Throughout the summer of 2005, TNA did not even have an TV show. But I was so damn into the product that I absolutely would not miss it, and I distinctly remember watching Impact from their web site so that I could see it. That's how much I was into it. I might be a year off, but I think this was the year that gave us Joe vs Daniels vs AJ in that Triple Threat match which most consider to be one of the greatest TNA matches ever.
Nowadays I do watch Impact if I am home, but if not than I am more than content to read the results the next day instead of recording it or anything.

"One of the few?" It seems like just about everyone preferred TNA before BFG 06. The ratings were slightly lower, but all the feedback I saw on the net was glowing at the time. Their audience was about the same size, and much happier. The amazing Styles/Daniels/Joe feud was replaced by the equally awesome Styles/Daniels vs. LAX feud. There was mild bitching when Jarrett stole the belt from Christian at Slammiverary 06, but it was so tame compared to the complaining now. |

My only critique with D'amore's booking back in the day was there was a lack of characters and character development, but I think that D'amore's handicap was developing characters for television. Now, they are doing very well with character development of Ms. Brooks, Jackie Moore, Velvet Skye and Angelina Love (not to mention ODB, Gail Kim, Roxxi Laveau and Awesome Kong), so now D'amore is letting his booking ability shine, which is great. I'm glad to see the proof that if booked properly, women's wrestling can be a draw.

The previous booking team was Scott D'Amore with Mike Tenay, with Jeff Jarrett having final say.
Tenay and D'Amore were removed from the booking team a year ago. Since then it has been Russo and Dutch Mantell with Jeff Jarrett having final say.
Recently they said that Mike Tenay and Abyss are going to be allowed to contribute, with Jeff Jarrett having final say.
Which means if you think creative is doing a crappy job, ultimately Jeff Jarrett is to blame (like Vince is in WWE) because he could change anything he really wanted to change.
In fact Jarrett put a stop to the three minute long matches on Impact that Russo started with. When Vinny Ru first showed up, Impacts started having only about combined 11 minutes of in-ring action.
