Antonio Inoki ran his big IGF show last week at the Tokyo Ariake Coliseum. Place looked to be about half full according to reports. Very interesting show with a lot of TNA guys there. Inoki did his usual wacky show opening, this time dressed as Santa. AJ Styles beat Senshi with the Styles clash; Amazon Blade beat Atsushi Suwada; Kazuhiro Hamanake beat Danny Iguazu; in his Japanese debut,
CHRIS MOORE, the former Chris Masters, beat Ryuji Yanagisawa with the MASTERLOCK; Taka Kunou beat JAN THE GIANT NORTJE, a truly horrible pro-wrestler; Kazuo (Yoshiki) Takahashi beat Michiyoshi Ohara; Josh Barnett beat another giant, Montanha Silva; Kurt Angle beat Kendo Kashin to retain the IWGP V.3 Title. This was supposed to be Angle vs. Booker T, but Booker no-showed. Angle won with the ankle lock. Booker did a video promo on the big screen but everyone was very upset that he wasn't there. The story I heard was that TNA didn't get him a work visa in time and so he couldn't legally make the trip.
Tadao Yasuda beat Rene Rooze via TKO, then Naoya Ogawa beat Yasuda in the main event with his STO finisher. They did an angle with Ogawa and Inoki afterwards. I guess the idea was that Ogawa was being a dick in the match and then challenged Inoki, who was doing commentary, to stand up afterwards, at which point they got into a pull apart. Apparently they are actually discussing the idea of Inoki coming out of retirement again for a match with Ogawa, who at one point was his main protégé.
The son of the former Bart Gunn, Mike Polchlopek III, 19, died last week during a gun accident. His friend Cody Grooms, 18, was cleaning a .22 caliber rifle in the family home when it went off and shot Polchlopek in the head. Very tragic story.
Black Warrior is being investigated by the Guadalajara lucha commission for kicking an 11 year old boy who requested his autograph after a match on December 11th
Very sad to report the death of Adolfo Pirata Moreno, the main promoter of the IWRG promotion. He began promoting in Tlanepantla in 1962 and, like Salvator Lutteroth of EMLL/CMLL, built Arena Naucalpan in 1977 as his home base for lucha libre. His son, Marco Antonio, is currently running IWRG. Pirata had been in bad health for at least the last six months, and this past September he could barely get around with the aid of a cane. He also leaves behind a wife, two other sons (Jaime and Cesar) and two daughter Daniela and Ivania.
Tammy Sytch will be at the December 29th show in Manhattan. It's similar to the Daniel Puder deal where she wants to "show up and see what ROH is like in person". She'll be available for autographs. Puder will be there as noted, plus there will be an appearance by, of all people, Bushwhacker Luke.
Line-up for the December 29th PPV taping in New York City has Nigel McGuinness vs. Austin Aries for the ROH Title, Briscoes vs. Roderick Strong & Rocky Romero for the Tag Titles, Bryan Danielson vs. Takeshi Morishima, Claudio Castagnoli vs. Chris Hero in a match where Claudio has to leave the company if he loses, Jack Evans & Ruckus vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black vs. two of Hangmen's Three in a tag team scramble, Sara Del Ray vs. Daizee Haze vs. Lacey in a three-way non-title Shimmer match (Del Rey is champ), Jigsaw vs. Necro Butcher vs. Matt Cross in a very odd three-way, and more.
