I'm seeing a decided lack of Turbonegro on this list as well. I like some of the choices, here's my list: 1- "Retox" by Turbonegro 2- "From Beale Street to Oblivion" by Clutch 3- "Zietgeist" by Smashing Pumpkins 4- "Era Vulgaris" by Queens on the Stone Age 5- "Wincing the Night Away" by The Shins 6- "Icky Thump" by the White Stripes 7- "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" by the Foo Fighters 8- "Systematic Chaos" by Dream Theater That's right, I do top 8's because I'm cool like that. I just heard "Zeitgeist"(Great Freakin album) so here's my list 1. "Wincing the Night Away" by The Shins2. "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank" By Modest Mouse3. "Zeitgeist" by The Smashing Pumpkins4. "Year Zero" by Nine Inch Nails5. "The Shepherd's Dog" by Iron and Wine6. "Myths of the Near Future" by Klaxons7. "Autumn of the Seraphs" by Pinback8. "Memory Almost Full" by Paul McCartney9. "Favourite Worst Nightmare" by Arctic MonkeysThere I have a top nine. Lone Ranger, THAT MEAN'S I'M BETTER THAN YOU!!!! Actually, your coolness is in a reverse proportion to the size of your list. Therefor, I, The Lone Ranger, am cooler than you.

I am hoping that El-P's I'll Sleep When You're Dead is on the list. If not, check it out.

It and Pelican's City of Echoes, and the new Coheed and Cambria are my favorite albums this year, tied for first. Rounded out with Serj Tankian, Modest Mouse, Kanye West, Queens of the Stone Age, The Shins, White Stripes, Allison Krauss and Robert Plant's brilliant album, and the soundtrack for La Vie En Rose

I actually like quite a few of those albums. Especially seeing as a couple of 'em were on my HM list. And I'll definitely have to check it out. Have you heard Lupe Fiasco's The Cool yet? It is 10 kinds of awesome.

Though, I am probably gonna pick up my own copy of Sigur Ros' new stuff, and their Zidane album, the El-P album (I was listening to someone elses mostly) and his older one. However this year I felt either metal, ambient/wall-of-sound type bands, with some world music. Though I love Allison Krauss, and if she does an album I generally put it in my favorites list.

And I spaced out, silly rabbit. He Is Legend, Suck Out The Poison is my top pick. Hardcoreish, with some southern Rock, it does benefit from being about five to six times more accessible than I Am Hollywood. I wouldn't say it's better, but I like it more, because it's something I can listen to more readily, if that makes sense. With the riproaring snarls and yells of "Stampede," the radio friendly title track, the glorification of being 'bad' in "((( louds." It's a solid album, dense sound, and crackling with energy that sometimes seems to lack other things of the genre.

I Am Hollywood is an artistic statement, Suck Out the Poison is a rock album that's more alive than most rock albums that came out this year. I screamed along with the songs, which gets me odd looks as I schleb around downtown.

This year IMO was a big year for Progressive, Alternative and Hip-Hop/R&B.
The rest of the genres were very underwhelming, especially from the pop scene. Hell, most of the big names either didn't release albums or released very crappy ones.

Any year that can include releases from Behemoth, Nile, Down, and Nightwish is all right with me.

Hell, most of the big names either didn't release albums or released very crappy ones. i guess it depends on what you define success by as far as hiphop goes it was a great year for profit and pop exposure (although it is declining), but as far as quality goes the mainstream representatives are an embarrassment, like souljaboy, game, and the pseudo-conscious rapper kanye etc, ofcourse there were a few gems this year like common, talib, devin, lupe, some may say jay-z too, aswell as jedi mind tricks and some other backpackers, but a couple of handfuls of decent albums is nothing compared to the 90s when a guy could go broke trying to buy every good rap album coming out rnb is the same, alot of pop exposure but its all watered down with barely anybody who can actually sing, the only people carrying the torch are the neo-soul artists and off the top the only ones that released anything this year were alicia keys, musiq soulchild and jill scott but i do agree with progressive and alternative those genres are always flourishing, but i think thats because unlike in alot of styles, alternative fans arent afraid of listening to and supporting bands theyve never heard of so the bands can make a nice living staying indie and thus have total creative control which results in some awesome music anyway thats my rant

10. Lupe Fiasco's The Cool Sure, this album came out not too long ago...but it's still in 2007 and is amazing, therefore it made the list. It just beat out Graduation as my top hip-hop album of the year...and with good reason. Lupe is a genius, hands down. The man knows what he's doing, and writes really, really amazing rhymes. Based on the first single, I'm inclined to agree.

Okay, time fo' more. 4. The Fall of Troy - Manipulator God, what to say about this album? It's about the most awesome followup there could have been to Doppelganger, unless said followup was the complete Ghost Ship...but that may not be happening for awhile yet. In any case...this album is insane. Some of the songs are more subdued than TFOT usually is...and some of them take the insanity up to the next level again. Sometimes they do it in the same song. These guys are just...well, they're just awesome. And listening to them, it's almost impossible to believe they're a three-piece, what with everything going on in the music. And the same applies for their live show...just absolutely awesome. This album is just pretty much necessary if you like even one of TFOT's songs. If you like progressive rock...if you like hardcore...just listen to this album. Seriously. It's like Rush on amphetamines. 3. Blaqk Audio - CexCells Holy hell I love this album. A lot. It's beautiful, it's catchy, it's intense...just absolutely amazing. I'd expect no less from the singer I idolize and one of my favourite musicians ever, but still. This is the futurepop side-project of Davey Havok and Jade Puget of AFI...and it's everything you'd expect out of an electronic album by them, and more. It's just so damn awesome. The lyrics are beautiful and touching, the music is lush and well thought out and can be anywhere from catchy to just powerful to anything else. There's so much energy in some of these songs I can't help but dance every time I hear them, which would be embarrassing if I gave a crap. In any case...if you're a fan of any sort of electronic music...you should listen to this album. It's just spectacular.

Okay...before the new year turns here in my part of the country, number TWO! 2. Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero One of the best concept albums I have ever heard. If ever I doubted that Reznor was a genius...and I really didn't...this solidified it. Awesome story, well-written lyrics, absolutely perfect music for each song...it's just...this album is gold. I pretty much love everything about it. It gives me chills...it's just...it's amazing. When I think of perfect, or at least nearly so, concept albums, this is one that has sprung to mind ever since it came out. What with the ARG surrounding its release and everything...it's just cool. And there's just so much more going on than the album itself...I love it. But the album is the real meat of the Year Zero saga...and it is just...wow. NIN is what got me into industrial...and they still remain at the forefront for me.

Good to see Serj getting some love. I was a huge system mark and nearly creamed my pants when I heard he had a solo album. It didn't disappoint. Not really a new album, but I bought my dad the Led Zeppelin Mothership CD, and I really enjoyed that. I'm guessing Lincoln Park's new CD won't be number one is it?

As anti spoiler as I am, I can safely say that, while I enjoyed Minutes to Midnight, it is nowhere near my top 10 of this year.
