I recently rented the DVD and I thought it wasn't bad. Although I still think this movie was to target girls but but I somewhat enjoyed it. The funny thing is that I still find it hard to believe John Travolta's character but he did a good job although most people won't agree with me on that.
Also, this is the first movie that I did not mind Amanda Bynes having a role in it. however I still don't think she can sing. Well you can thell I don't like her.
I really like the majority of the songs in the movie especially "without love" and you can't stop the beat is a pretty addictive song and very long but it is still cool.
Overall I thought it was a pretty entertaining movie but I would definitely recommend it to anyone but moreso the ladies. But I was wondering if anyone on this forum has seen it?
Also if anyone here saw the originall, can you tell me if it was better than the remake?

Thought it was great fun, and can't remember the original well enough to truly compare, although Divine was definitely better in the role (created for him) than Travolta.

It's not as much a remake of the original (which i also enjoyed) as much as it was a movie version of the broadway play. Travolta did a fantastic job in the movie as did the rest of the cast. I loved it, then again I'm a musical guy.
the original was good but don't expect a lot of music like in the newer one.

One of my favourite films of the year. In a summer of some films really failing to deliver, it delivered the goods.

I'm still waiting to see it, but as I loved the original, I'm sure I'll like it. The Producers worked for me, too, and not as a remake, as Jay pointed out.

Had it on my Christmas list. GREAT FILM!!!
And I have seen the original, but this is very much different then the original.
Case in point, Link is barely in the newer version but in the original, he was a main character. Top it off with alot of differences in both films. Mind ya, the Broadway musical is based on the original & the remake is based on the Broadway musical.
But this was a great film.

No.
Why? Because I was forced to sit through Hairspray LIVE on Broadway...
AND I HATED IT!
I was cringing the whole way through with my one friend. So I didn't exactly want to relive that experience

yeah, its not really fair to call it a remake, snce this one had al the Broadway music and the other one didn't. Really its a different adaptation.

I thought it was excellent, and just wicked fun. I enjoyed it a little more than Waters' original flick, though it was great stuff too. Honestly it moved up pretty high in my list of musicals.
Nothing will ever top RENT though.

Well it is a remake since it was based on another movie and they both had pretty much the same story. and the 1988 version was the one to first adapt the title.

I didn't understand it at the time, but i loved the music, once i got old enough to understand it even more i became a Renthead all over again.
