Someone once told me that a true Cult Movie is one that either people love or hate. Well, some I love.....from say REPO MAN to THIS IS SPINAL TAP.....and others, I hate. Like THE PRINCESS BRIDE. I've had it with people, from critics to women, who tell me how that movie is a whimsical adventure, but also a "joker" of that genre...and I say Bologna. The damn "winking" all over the place by Reiner and author/scripter William Goldman is annoying to the point that it hurts the story, and self-conciously too aware for its own good. Besides, that ending with the kid.....what kind of a boy would want to listen to a story like that again? You didn't like The Princess Bride? INCONCEIVABLE! Now now, I'm sorry.......if I put the TV onto Oprah and get you some milk & cookies, would you be happy?

Napoleon Dynamite at the top of my list. Hell, my list should be forking titled "The Napoleon Dynamite Award list" or something. This movie was hyped to me for about 5 months, and I finally saw it, and I was like "huh?" In a way I agree with you. That is a good name for the award. However I like Napoleon Dynamite. Not at first mind you, but the more I watch it the more I like it. I think the same holds true with a lot of cult movies. I didn't enjoy the Royal Tenenbaums all that much the first time through, but felt compelled to watch it again. Now I watch it quite a bit, and is one of my favorites. ...then there are ones like A Clockwork Orange that had me right out the gate.

Pulp Fiction Whoopity Dooo, a bunch of cliches and one liners for the angry teenager to quote way too often. OMG, the movie has Drugs and Guns and Swearing, it's SOOooo innovative. Whatever. Don't forget, it also has teh buttsecks, lawls! I'll go ahead and throw the majority QT's movies. I loved Resivoir Dogs, because I am a huge fan of many of the actors (Madsen and Buscemi in particular), but his films try way too hard to be both "retro", "smart" and "tongue in cheek" all at the same time. Yeah, you're transpartent, cliched, and if you had bad actors instead of really good ones, you'd be lucky to make it into a dollar bin at Wal-Mart. well, I doubt too many people were lol'ing about the Buttsecks in PF. Jackie Brown on the other hand.

Gummo. That movie was an unwatchable mess with no discernible plot, that inaccurately portrays Xenia as a white-trash hellhole. The scene of the kid eating dinner in the bathtub is honestly the only thing I've ever seen in a movie that actually repulsed me. The only redeeming aspect of that movie is the soundtrack, which is another thing that pissed me off; how could a movie with such an awesome soundtrack NOT be awesome by default? I've never been mad at myself for watching a movie before or since I watched Gummo, and it's the only movie I ever openly bash. And don't forget that the director Larry Clark just comes across as a candidate for To catch a predator.

I enjoyed Donnie Darko but I don't understand the following it has or why people make such a big deal about the movie. I twas cool but not some great piece of work.

Napoleon Dynamite, hwo did I forget that? I was willing to give it a chance the first time, but since all my friends loved it, I have had to sit through it at least five times. Each time, it gets worse. It's honestly the only time I've ever wanted to see an assassination during a high school election.

I'm prepared to be absolutely torn apart for this, but I'm ready, willing and able to defend myself.
DONNIE DARKO. One of my friends kept demanding that I see this "innovative and life-altering" movie and kept telling me about how it would "change my life" and "if you don't like it, watch it again. It's really deep." So I figured, what the hell, let's give it a shot. Awful, awful movie. It's the kind of movie that nerds jack off to. Its just so damned stupid and full of itself. But then again, maybe I feel that way because I only saw it once and didn't see how "deep" it was to my friend.
300. I don't know if it falls under the category of "cult movie" yet, but I figure it has to, because it's a movie that everyone loves but me. I remember walking out of the theater and being the only person who didn't say "Oh my God that was the best action movie ever!" or "Those were the most incredible fight scenes I've ever seen!" I just thought "Okay, so it's SIN CITY and GLADIATOR blended together with an Abercrombie and Fitch commercial. What's the big deal?" It sucked.
ARMY OF DARKNESS. I know its supposed to fall under the category of "So bad, it's good", but I can't help it. It was so bad, it's bad. Its just ridiculous and dumb and pointless and stupid and every other word possible to explain a negative emotion.

I'd like to add Napoleon Dynamite to my list, and as we're here let's throw Kill Bill 1 & 2 in.
And don't worry BRV, I thought 300 was average at best.

I'm going to have to give Darko a second chance, because the first time I watched it I was pre-occupied with babysitting my friends who were..under the influence.

I could not stand "Rules of attraction" what pretentious waste of a movie that was.

I kinda liked Reservoir Dogs. Kinda. But just endless talking was a harbinger of things to come for 'ol Q.
Pulp Fiction I found to be way too long and boring. I guess I'm just not into 'hip' dialogue.
I got talked into seeing BOTH Kill Bills and was awestruck that this guy not only keeps making films by ripping off 'homaging' other films, but is revered for it!
Ebert actually gave that ridiculous KB1 4 stars. Amazing.

And Brian DePalma still gets SLAMMED for doing that same practice. THere's a video on youtube that I saw this weekend, concering a Terantino short about the three stooges. Seems he went over the top and made their slapstick violence realistic. Thing was, the exact same thing had been done some years earlier, with the "gags" being exactly the same. As for DePalma, his film making is fine, but good God, amd I sick of Scarface by this point.
