I was wondering if UK Crappers could give me any idea as to the better Internet Service Providers in the UK. I've been with Virgin/NTL for years but I asked them tonight how much it would cost to have my cabling extended as I am switching rooms (House being done up), anyway they quoted me £75 which is outrageous in my opinion and when I asked how much notice I had to give to quit they dismissively told me as if they didn't give a rats ass......I don't need a tv provider as I'm getting a freeview box and I don't need a phone line as I have my mobile so all I need is a good solid ISP to switch to but I wanna avoid BT that's for damn sure after all the hassle my parents had in their house (Took them a month to get connected)

I with Orange, and they're really good. Been with them for about ten years now (although they were previously named Freeserve).
Never had any problems, and there's no limits, either (as far as I know).

Orange (previously Freeserve and Wannado) are not too bad. They don't have the best tech help (then again, who does?) but the internet only goes out about once a month. Plus if you have an Orange phone you can get internet pretty cheap.

Virgin Media are absolutely idiots. Seriously, they are stealing fools who have an awful level of customer service.
Seeing as you don't want TV or Phone I'd say Orange would be your best bet, friend.

I'll add another recommendation for Orange.
And I can say from personal experience that staying away from BT is a very good idea.

The only problem I havve with Orange is that the Tech support department that deals with the wireless modem they provide closes at 10pm every night. So if you get home late at night and the internet is out you ring up and of course go through to a call centre in India, who flat-out refuse to help with the wireless modem because they don't know anything about it. They can't even tell you if it's a fault with the line. But when I complained to the UK Customer Service dept. they gave me 3 free months.

I can honestly say in all confidence, and sincerity, DONT GO WITH BT!!!!!!!! they are the worst ISP I have ever been with. Dont even get anywhere near the bandwidth they promise and their tech support is like 2 hampsters and a carrot trying to teach a brick to swim.
