I've noticed this in many movies and I just thought I'd bring it up.
Sometimes, if there is a talented person from another line of work, they'll have an "ironic" casting where their character is horrible at it.
Pure athletes in real life fail to throw a football 3 yards. Singers reach near-Jillian Hall levels. Comedians that bomb with lame jokes (although some are probably used to it) etc. etc.
One example that sticks with me is the movie Black Dog where Randy Travis plays a tone deaf trucker.
I'm very sure there are more, so if you have a favorite one, please share it.
But anyway, I'm just wondering what's your opinion on these castings?

Do good-looking actresses being casted to look "ugly" [that usually consists in wearing glasses, a lazy hairdo and casual clothes and makeup...] for most of the movie?
Why don't they at least TRY to cast an average-looking actress for the uggo role?

Patrick Swayze, Randy Travis, AND MeatLoaf in a movie about smuggling things in 18-Wheelers! How can you NOT watch that! ;D Do good-looking actresses being casted to look "ugly" [that usually consists in wearing glasses, a lazy hairdo and casual clothes and makeup...] for most of the movie? Why don't they at least TRY to cast an average-looking actress for the uggo role? Yeah. I guess that could count. Those are usually irritating, and I was going for the humorous type, but it works.

How about Jack Benny? Despite being a good violinist, one of his gimmicks was playing the violin badly.

This is bad but...
In STEEL, at one point Shaq tries to throw a piece of something away and totally misses the trash can and says "I could never make free throws".

I dont watch basketball, but on a show I thought someone made reference to him not hitting free throws well It is a very well known fact (in the basketball world) that Shaq is a sub-par free throw shooter. During his prime, the way teams used to stop him was purposely fouling him and make him earn 2 points because it was virtually impossible to shut him down any other way.

Mike Myers cast Liz Hurley in Austin powers specifically because she was a bad actress. He was making fun of all the bond girls that were crap actors. It didn't occur to me while watching the film, but it is a funny touch.

I was never sure if Courtney Love playing a druggie in the people versus larry flynnt was supposed to be ironic or not.

Morgan Spurlock's only acting role was as Robbie, the manager of Hella-Burger, a fast food resteraunt.
Yes....this was the same Morgan Spurlock who did Super Size Me.
