Madonna won the last one... ----------------------------------------- ...now can she win this one? Bananarama - Cruel Summer"Cruel Summer" was a top ten hit in Britain in 1983, but wasn't an international success until its inclusion in the 1984 movie The Karate Kid, a year after its original release. The group didn't allow the record to be included in the film's soundtrack, but it was still their first top ten hit in the USA. The song has since been revived in various forms. It appeared in several television commercials, was included on the soundtrack to the movie Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, and was covered by other acts, such as Ace of Base, who scored an international hit with it (their version even reached gold in the US), and Blestenation on the Blue Crush soundtrack. In 2003, Swedish electronica female artist Sophie Rimheden sampled the beat and bassline from the song on the track "In Your Mind" from the album HiFi. The song was also featured as the theme tune to the first series of Trouble's reality show of the same name, where a group of young adults were sent off to a holiday camp, only to be tortured and humiliated in an attempt to win a large sum of money. Vs. Madonna - Borderline"Borderline" was filmed on location in Los Angeles, California from January 30 to February 2, 1984 and was the first video that Madonna made with director Mary Lambert, who would later also direct the videos "Like a Virgin", "Material Girl", "La Isla Bonita" and "Like a Prayer". In this video Madonna is a colorful street girl, toying with one of the boys. A photographer then gets interested in her and she lets him take pictures while she sips champagne. [1] However, Madonna quickly gets bored and tries to win back the heart of her boyfriend. Lambert creates a contrast with color scenes in the street (with the boyfriend) and black and white scenes during the photoshoots. It was the first Madonna video that received sustained play on MTV. Then unknown Actor John Leguizamo is in the video as one of Madonna's boyfriend's friends.

Banananananananaramamamamamamama wins. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Another match brought to us by Meat. Chris De Burgh - Lady In RedThe song was written in reference to (though not specifically about) his first wife Diane and was released on the album Into The Light, peaking on the Billboard charts at #3 in May of 1987 Vs. Michael Jackson - She's Out Of My Life"She's out of My Life" was the fourth single to be released by singer Michael Jackson from his successful Off the Wall album in 1980. It was the first time a solo artist achieved four top ten hits from one album. Unlike the previous singles, which were all dance-oriented funk/disco songs, this song was an emotional ballad, written by Tom Bahler. Jackson's vocals on this record were judged some of his best. The song was written by Tom Bahler, after Karen Carpenter broke up with him when she found out he had fathered a child with another woman[1]. The song has been covered numerous times by many artists including Patti LaBelle, Ginuwine, boy band, 98 Degrees Josh Groban. A crucial moment in the song occurs near it's end when Jackson begins to break down in tears as he sings the word "life". The song remained in Jackson's live set for many years as a result of it's popularity. Jackson tried many takes of the last few minutes of the song, but always ended in the same way – breaking down in tears. Produced Quincy Jones let him record it that way out of necessity, not because he felt it was a good idea[citation needed]. The song peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Dino helps break up the sweep, but it can't help ol' Chris from having to go home. ------------------------------------- My Xbox Live profile refrences this Rockwell song, I'm just an average merc.... Including this match there is 5 more Round 2 matches! Rockwell - Somebody's Watching MeRockwell is the son of Motown CEO Berry Gordy, Jr. The singer had himself signed to Motown without his father's knowledge; the elder Gordy found out that Rockwell was secretly his son Kennedy after the single and the accompanying Somebody's Watching Me album were released. The single's music video underscores the song's paranoia theme with a haunted house inspired theme, including imagery of floating heads, ravens, graveyards, and shower scenes referencing Psycho. Michael and Jermaine Jackson, Rockwell's brothers-in-law (Jermaine Jackson was married to Rockwell's half-sister Hazel), do not appear in the video. The song was also featured in the pilot episode of the 1980s police drama Miami Vice. Produced by Curtis Anthony Nolen, "Somebody's Watching Me" peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, and reached the top of the Billboard R&B singles chart. Much of the song's success was derived from the presence of Michael Jackson's recognizable voice on the chorus; the Jacksons were one of the last elements added to the recording.[1] It was the only major hit for Rockwell; its follow up, "Obscene Phone Caller", was Rockwell's only other Top 40 single, reaching #35. Vs. Nena - 99 Luftballoons"99 Luftballons" is a Cold War-era protest song by the German band Nena. Originally sung in German, it was later re-recorded in English as "99 Red Balloons". It is one of the most successful pop songs by a German artist in the world. "99 Luftballons" reached #1 in West Germany in 1983. In 1984, the original German version also peaked at #2 on the American Billboard Hot 100 chart and the English-language version topped the UK Singles Chart. When it charted in the United States, most US radio DJs incorrectly assumed that "99 Luftballons" was translated in English as "99 Red Balloons" or pronounced the number 99 in English and said "Ninety-nine Luftballoons." The actual pronunciation of "99 Luftballons" is "Neunundneunzig Luftballons." The host of American Top 40, Casey Kasem, was one of the few radio personalities who pronounced the song title correctly when it charted in the US in 1984. The original title literally translates as "Ninety-Nine Balloons".[
