Ok. Firstly, I'm going to assume that you've seen the Empire Strikes Back. If you haven't, then...
1) Leave the thread right now 2) What's the weather like on Mars?
Anyway. At the end of Empire when Vader cuts Luke's hand off there is no blood. Anyone care to enlighten me as to why? Be as geeky with your Star Wars viewpoints as you want.
And before anyone says it's because the lightsaber cauterizes the wound, why in A New Hope when that thing gets his arm lopped off in the Cantina is there blood next to it? Is it inconsistency?

Luke used the force to hold the blood in.
There. Solved.

I'm pretty sure it's just inconsistency, more than anything else. Seeing as Lucas didn't direct Empire, just A New Hope...they probably approached the concept of what happens differently, and didn't pay attention to what happened in the last flick.
But who knows? Maybe Vader FORCE CAUTERIZED the wound.
Or midichlorians have amazing instant healing powers.
Hell, I dunno.

Luke Skywalker doesn't have blood. Obviously.
Or it's just inconsistency.

Luke Skywalker's blood is actually ketchup therefore it takes forever to come out.

Why does Obi-Wan disappear when he gets hit?

Just inconsistency.
It was probably Kirschner using logic, Hot Blade + Wound = cauterize.
George Lucas when it comes to film making is just a moron
Also didn't blood spray when Darth Maul was cut in half

Why does Obi-Wan disappear when he gets hit? He became one with the force or something.

Just inconsistency Didn't blood spray when Darth Maul was cut in half Not really. The burning caused by a lightsaber is so intense that it basicaly cooks what it comes into contact with. Lightsaber beams can cut through most metals and minerals. If it can melt steel, what do you think it's going to do to flesh?

Hmm, well the hand is attached at a thin part of the body and could cauterize easy, and stuff higher up like right at the shoulder can't get sealed off quite as quick cuz it's thinker and full of more veins. How bout that?

the midiclorians (or however you spell them) in blood react differently when a light saber cuts through body parts then normal blood.

He does dumb things sometimes, but irrational? He's not nearly the sort.

I've never understood why people constantly give him s*** when all he's done is give the world 2 of the most beloved franchises in film history (no, not the Ewoks before some smart arse says that). But sometimes, there is not much logic to the things he does. Hayden Christiansen's spirit at the end of the reworked Jedi doesn't really make much sense.

Bah, only "A New Hope" is illogical and inconsistant. In "Empire", the Wampa doesn't lose any blood nor does Luke.
In "Return" Vader doesn't bleed (obviously) nor do the many creatures aboard Jabba's skiff thingy that Luke slaughters.
In "Phantom" neither Qui Gonn nor Darth Maul bleed.
In "Clone" the shape shifter assassin, Jango Fett, and Anakin never bleed.
In "Revenge" Anakin, Mace, and the jedis killed by the Emperor don't bleed when they are all cut.
I'm afraid the only inconsistancy is the guy in the bar bleeding. But wasn't he that spider/walrus looking alien guy? If he had an exo-skeleton instead of skin and bone like humans have, maybe the saber couldn't burn the wound closed?

Hey this guy has done more for movie making than most " Directors" ever will. Also about the lack of blood? they are family fantasies why should there be blood?

Because the humanoids in the Star Wars universe don't have blood, but every other lifeform does?

Which I was going to point out in my arguement. Anyways a lot of extended universe writing (specifically the novelization of Dark Forces II) states that the heat from a lightsaber (which as we pointed out can slice through just about anything) is such that any wound will end up cauterizing almost immediately.
