Around here, we talk a lot about how Ricky Steamboat was never a heel. Ric Flair has stated that Steamboat could never be a heel.
So here's the challenge: Dream up a way that Steamboat could have been booked as a believable bad guy at any point in his career. Doesn't matter if it's WCW, WWF or any other fed.
One catch: It can't be the "Bret Hart" heel route, where he's disgusted over the values of society.

Have him wrestle under his real name Richard Blood and make him a ruthless ninja who sneak attacks his opponents.

Or he could do a variation of a CM Punk gimmick. He's so good, such a non-partyier, a family man, such a great role model, and that makes him better than you.

I'd have him start wrestling a lot of faces, and start to get very "showy" during these matches, to the point where it would start to infuriate his opponents.
He'd respond to this criticism by becoming more and more cocky, talking about how much better he is in the ring than everyone else in a very laidback, cocky tone.
It would come to a head against a match versus Sting, where Sting would straight up outwrestle him, Steamboat would snap, and cheat to win.
Ths would lead to him becoming a monster heel who truly believes he IS better than everyone.

1989 NWA. After his loss to Flair, he began to hear the boos. They had Luger turn on him (in my childhoods favorite turn ever) and in their feud Steamboat heard alot of boos also. Id go naturally with it and have him join Gay Harts Terry Funk/Great Muta stable. Feud him with Sting and DO NOT have Ole take the book that year.
Instead allow Jim Ross, Jim Cornette and Paul Heyman book and write as WCW hit 1990. But Im not Jim Herd.

Seems simple sort-of. NWA title match vs Flair. Flair constantly hits on his wife during the match. Steamboat keeps getting distracted and tells her to leave, but she decides to stay to support him etc. Flair gets thrown to the outside, hits on her again and actually puts a lip-lock on her (BIG sacrifice on Flair's part ). Steamboat gets pissed and goes to the outside to chase Flair. Flair runs back in and, as Steamboat follows him, Flair catches him in the figure-four for the win. Steamboats wife comes into the ring to console her husband. Then, just as he hobbles to his feet like the valiant hero he is, he SHOVES HIS WIFE DOWN. (all off mic of course) "I TOLD you to leave!!" "B-b-but Ricky... *sobs*" "No, no, none of this CRYING!! You cost me the match, Bonnie! YOU cost me the title! You KNEW how much this meant to me!!" "Sorry Ric-" "NO! Screw you, Bonnie!" *Steamboat storms to the back, leaving Bonnie in the ring shocked/confused whatever* He then cuts promos saying he's only gonna be in it for himself from now on. Not his wife (who won't be on camera for the rest of the run), not the NWA, not the FANS, just RICKY GODDAMN STEAMBOAT! And there ya go! ...just call me Vinny R.

Kind of like in his promo battle with Foley at Joe/Punk II where he was the heel for saying Pure Wrestling was better than Hardcore Wrestling?
"Hardcore wrestling reminds me of garbage wrestling." and he told Foley that he got one of Foley's emails accidentally but that they had a job for him driving a garbage truck.

Is that REALLY heelish at an ROH event though??

He could've followed through on the tease that he was getting pushed over the edge when fighting the Dangerous Alliance, and either have him join the group or just go too far when getting physical with Madusa.
