I've never been to a Ring of Honor show, but I'm looking to go to the 1/11 event in Boston. Will it be possible for me to go to the gym the night of the event and pick up tickets, or to the ticket office a few days in advance?

You can buy the day of the show, but there's a risk it will sell out. The first ROH show I went to, I bought tickets the day of the show and they only had standing room only. (It was In Your Face at the New Yorker Hotel)

Online's definitely your best bet, especially during their "x% off" deals. Don't expect front row, though--tickets are available first to those who attend the previous show at that venue (i.e., tickets for the 3/15 Philly show were available at the door at the 11/2 Philly show), and the front rows are generally yoinked pretty directly.

Best seats are bought at the show before the one you wanna go to.

For the ROH shows I have been to, I bought my tickets at the door and got bleacher seats. But I have always gotten there early enough that I've always gotten really good spots in the bleachers.

The best thing to do is get tickets online (although you can still get them at the door), and then buy tickets for the next show while you're at the show. It's how I get front-row ;D
