This just in: 'Short Circuit's' Johnny 5 still alive Dimension acquires rights to remake 1986 film
Dimension Films is rewiring "Short Circuit," acquiring rights to remake the 1986 film. The original introduced Number 5, a robot built by the military to be a highly sophisticated weapon. It developed a conscience and a personality after being hit by lightning, and then needed the help of humans after it was targeted for destruction by its makers, once it became a peacenik.
S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who created the characters and wrote both "Short Circuit" films, have been hired to write the remake. David Foster and Ryan E. Heppe will produce with John Hyde.
Deal was made by Dimension co-chairman Bob Weinstein, who called "Short Circuit" a worthy addition to its family film slate.
Foster, who produced the original with his partner Lawrence Turman and son Gary Foster, said the film will be similar in theme to the original, but it will factor in advances in technology. Government Robot turned into nice guy who saves people. It's not like it's 'Citizen Kane' or anything. It doesn't have major factors that compliment the time the movie was made that would be difficult to reconstruct now.

They did the same exact thing with both Dumb and Dumber and Romy and Michelle's Highschool reunion (took the leading characters and chronicled their younger years without casting the original actors).
Guess what? Both of those "restarts" sucked donkey balls. This one will too.

Every time a new remake happens I become more and more convinced it was the right thing to do to not support Michael Bay Presents: Transformers

At first I thought this was about that remake that had been planned for Caddyshack, with Cedric the Entertainer playing the Rodney Dangerfield part. After checking up on it, I found out that it had been scuttled ...
Instead they are doing a remake of Back to School with Cedric in the Rodney Dangerfield role ... I just died a little inside.

They also did the same exact thing with Batman not too long ago. That didn't turn out too bad.
As I've always said, there's nothing inherently bad about remakes/reboots, just like there's nothing inherently good about original films. It's all in the execution.

Ladies and gentlemen, to quote Superman in Kingdom Come..."We are at war." I always defend remakes but this...They have gone to far

Once they start making remakes of remakes, then we worry. Actually I'd be surprised if that hasn't already happened. It's Has or Is shall i say The Thing & The Fly are in line for remakes But the thing is a funny one because some people say Carpenter's The Thing isn't a re-make but some people do.
