Man, I love this game way more than anyone should. I know there's at least one other fan on the forum. It's just a simple 3D run and gun shooter at heart, repetitive as hell, but quite honestly, wasting giant ants and spiders and aliens with a rocket launcher never gets old no matter how many times you do it. Sure, there ARE other weapons in the game...but smurf em, the rocket launcher is all you need. It can take down buildings (because while defending the city from aliens, it seems pretty obvious you have to destroy as much crap as possible). I doubt this game will EVER have a sequel (it's origin is from a series called "Simple2000 Series (insert game type here)" in Japan, basically fun budget titles that anyone can pick up and play), but damn I'd love for there to be one. Because when I run out of crap to blow up with a rocket launcher, dammit, I want MORE crap to blow up with a rocket launcher. It's like almost every sci-fi B movie you've ever seen (definite influences from Starship Troopers and even to a point Independence Day), but way better. Can you argue with videos like this? www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir7j6NUzI0s&feature=relatedwww.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw1djFoPQIMWell, probably. But you shouldn't.

EDF! EDF! EDF!!
Yeah, I'm that other EDF fan on this board. ;D If you ask me, this is one of the greatest co-op games out there, which many people don't realize because it's basically a "B" game and doesn't have all the bells and whistles from your average AAA shooter.
But seriously, I've had more fun with EDF than I've had with Halo and Gears of Bore War combined. You can and probably will blow up EVERYTHING, including approximately eleventy billion giant ants (at once), flying saucers that drop said ants and other extraterrestrial creepy crawlies at you, giant robots which go down with the most awesome explosions known to man... and of course whatever buildings may or may not get in the way. All this in a single mission. Epic stuff.
Oh yeah, and any game that lets you fight two American Godzilla clones at once (with a rocket launcher) gets a thumbs up from me. ;D
As for a possible sequel, I could see that happening since EDF 2017 is actually the third installment in the (I apologize for my spelling in advance) Chikyu Boueigun series, known to us as Earth Defense Force. Now, whether they'd release another EDF in the western part of the world, I don't know.

I adore this game, even though it frustrates me at times (such as the other mission underground where ants and spiders swarm you and it's IMPOSSIBLE to see anything, and the bug corpses hinder your moving about). I haven't had the pleasure of playing it with someone else yet.
I knew there had been previous EDF games I just sort of forgot about them >_>
It is fun to go on a rampage with the Aliens Power Loader knockoff vehicle, but man, that fight with the giant Zoids like robot made me mad, all of that effort just to be told to back off and retreat. Gah.
