We all say this now, but when this match took place, everyone was marking out that Trips may actually drop the title.

I remember this.
Bubba was quite good on the mic during this time.

I would have rather seen Bubba as champion than Batista. :/

As Bubba was feuding with HHH and had an upper card spot on the Raw roster, D-Von had a stupid reverend gimmick on Smackdown.

Bubba's the 2nd most underappreciated mic worker of the past 15 years, behind only the Road Dogg Jesse James.

See the ting is at this time Bubba was a legit upper midcarder and I remember people saying he would be the next Mic Foley in the terms he could do spots and was gold on the mic and honestly yeah I could see Bubba at that time going for the World Title, I mean it wasn't unfeasible. Also I think at this time HHH had really bad competition at this time and the good competition he did had was severly buried afterwards ie-Booker, Kane, and RVD
I mean really I feel he would have made a great champ but they just dropped the ball with him and reunited the Dudleys which lead to nothing important except Kidman and London winning the titles from them which shocked me which I think lead to the whole Kidman against high risk maneuver storyline.

He would've made a good challenger, but I think they were just doing a one-time thing honestly as he never got a shot at the World belt again after this. Booker and Kane hadn't been beaten yet, also later that night Kane won a match over Jericho to face Trips at the No Mercy PPV, so there was no chance that Bubba would've gotten it that night.

What I like was that it was actually someone other than the regulars getting a title shot. It would have been a huge shock if Bubba won

I was totally rooting for big Bubba because I was tired of HHH being the spotlight on the show and having 20 min monologues.

Oh okay I remember that now that perod of time became a blur to me as it was mostly garbage after HHH was awarded the title and went through people like Steiner, Book, RVD, and Kane and made them all look like unworthy garbage seriously that was terrible and lets not forget a little thing called Katie Vick.

This was not far aftr Bischoff got there. Bubba was pushed pretty big from the start. This was the contiuned of that. I could have seen him as champion in that time because he was good on the mic. Sure he didn't have a six pack in abs but this was during the time he was in his best shape anyway.

Yeah this was one of those weird times where I remember the backstage "newz" even saying there were some rumors that they just might pull the trigger on Bubba having a short reign just to change things up because the WWE were realizing that the top of the card had really become stagnent thanks to the burying of some talent.
Obviously it wasn't meant to be but I loved the build up.

Except this was 3 weeks into Trips' reign as champion, and only 3 title defenses before that against Flair, Jeff Hardy and RVD, and I think in one of them he had just got by barely against RVD. He hadn't really buried anyone at this point.

Perhaps there was, I dunno. But I just thought it was just a very well built up title defense for Trips as Bubba was the second guy to get in his face about a title shot the night Trips was awarded the title.
