I wish i had had the chance and the foresight to join this forum when i first saw the site almost a year ago, at least that way i would've been able to have a few words with John. However i will always remember his showmanship and skills within the ring, be it winning or losing, and i know he's in a better place.

My God......as I sit here, I have tears running down my face, and I really don't know what to say. I really don't. I opened my browser, intent on surfing the Net, and just got gut-punched by what I saw on the main page.
I just lost my Grandmother to cancer....my Grandfather last year to cancer and my father died of cancer when I was five......so I kind of have a feeling about what John's family will be going through. My heart goes out to them, and I pray that they find comfort in the fact that John is at peace, and that they don't mourn his loss as much as they revel in the joy that he gave them while he was here. I mean, He reached out to EVERYONE, even me, whom he didn't know from Adam. And when I told him my stepdad was battling emphysema, John was NOTHING but caring and supportive. Imagine my shock......a WRESTLER, whom I had grown up watching on TV, was not only talking to me on the internet, but was wishing my Pop good luck, and actually suggesting stuff like Mangosteen that might help....I was floored.
I can't put it better than to paraphrase Eminem: "When I'm gone just carry on, don't mourn rejoice at the sound of my voice.....and when you look up to heaven, know that I'm smilin' down on you and I love you...."
I think John would like that......
THANK YOU, JOHN TENTA for all YOU DID FOR ME........
Rest In Peace, John.

Sitting and Thinking back on all of this I realize what has happended and am Thankful that I had a chance to see Quake wrestle back when I was a true mark at the age of 6 taking on my favorite wrestler at the time which was Hogan. Now I may not have went to see Quake but he made the show worth it to me. That is why Im thankful to have seen Quake wrestle at least once.

Woof- unbelievable... My friends who aren't wrestling fans (but i show them old-school wrestling tapes all the time anyway) always saw the Earthquake images on the TV and said, "Is he one of those guys who died?" I always said no, but now I guess I will have to say yes. WOOF. So unfortunate!!!! Quake seemed like such a genuine fella on this board... Sad to see him go.

Rest in Peace, Earthquake. You beat Hogan and Andre The Giant like a drum and yet you were still so humble about wrestling.

I can't really say anything here that hasn't already been said, I was just another fan w/ fond memories of Earthquake from when I was a kid (I remember majorly marking out when I found out he was from my home city of Vancouver, B.C.) who was happy to rediscover him on wrestlecrap and find out thru his interviews and this forum what a great guy he was outside of the ring. Finding out about his death felt like a punch to the gut.

I look back and have to remember the parody of Sexy Boy my brother and I made up when John Tenta was feuding with big bubba in WCW, I sang it today after i saw the announcement of his death, and it still made me laugh. Earthquake was a great monster heel, and I know that right now he's tagging with Andre up in heaven fighting Eddie and Owen. Rip John

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but WWE.com has a section up on John Tenta, with commentary from a few of the guys that knew him.
I thought that Jim Ross had some good things to say.
"So often when people pass and we’re asked to say what our remembrances of somebody are and sometimes there are guys that aren’t the greatest of guys, but in their passing you try and think of something nice to say. This is one of those situations where I don’t have to think long to think about John. He was just a real soft-hearted guy, legitimately a real teddy bear, but could be a bad son of a gun when he needed to be. My memories of him will always be that young vibrant teenager who wrestled Steve “Dr. Death” Williams in the duel with LSU and OU. And he’ll be a guy that we’re all going to miss. He was jovial and I’m happy that while I was in charge of talent relations that we were able to negotiate a deal for him and bring him back. John didn’t have ego issues, he just wanted to work. He wanted to take care of his family; he wanted to get back in the ring and at least that helped facilitate it. He’s a guy that we’re going to miss. I had exchanged some e-mails with him over the last couple of years and we often wonder sometimes if we’re struck with a serious illness, how we would react. And God forbid I ever have an illness of that magnitude, but if I do, I want to fight it with the courage and the attitude of John Tenta. John Tenta was a hell of a guy."
