Since I respect the opinion of the Wrestlecrap board, I pose this question to the members of the forum. Even though there's a thread about TNA that sort of relates, I think there's a larger point in question, as it seems to me these days a lot of wrestling fans think they're "too good for WWE" and look down on people who enjoy it. More and more on wrestling message boards and podcasts I hear people saying they wouldn't pay for a ticket to Raw, or buy a Cena t-shirt, or do an impression of Stone Cold. They act as though marking out for Rey Mysterio, MVP or Jeff Hardy is GOUCHE, uncouth, and vulgar. It sort of amazes me as someone who enjoys ALL forms of wrestling, from WWE to TNA to ROH to NWA to lucha libre to the indies, that a wrestling fan would look down on another wrestling fan for doing a Rock impression or referencing a favorite steel cage match. The only thing I can think of for it is ELITISM, and since wrestling fans are an already discriminated against minority, I don't see how that kind of divisive attitude helps matters. Should one wrestling fan really be able to look down on another because they like Shawn Michaels or Elijah Burke? Inquiring minds want to know.

Elitist is another word for douchebag, so I'd say no.

Elitist is another word for douchebag, so I'd say no. Well "douchebag" definitely suits the guy I was having this argument with well. His idea of a comeback was "I bet you do the People's Elbow in public!" C'mon. Being a WWE fan doesn't mean you act like a mark ALL the time.

Who really gives a shit what brand of wrestling you like? It's all pretty much the same in one way or another.

Agreed, this thread is pointless it should be locked before a bone head starts causing trouble by stiring the shit between WWE, TNA, ROH & MMA fans IMHO.

Around Wrestlecrap that kind of boneheadedness seems a lot less likely even though I recognize that itself might come across somewhat elitist.

Yes it is. If you don't like the WWE, it's super cool to bash both the product and especially the fans that watch it.
At least to them.

Luckily I've never come across anyone like that in person. I hate people like that.

I don't think its cool to look down on any wrestling fan-base as a group, but taken on a case-by-case basis, it's pretty damn fun at times. The moron who impersonated a cop to get Batista's autograph? Check. Youtube shooters? Fire away. Crying Batista fan? Definitely. Warriorthug? Hell, that's almost a requirement.
Mockery is fine, but just make sure you do so with individual fans, and not a group as a whole, as that is both short-sighted and not nearly as creaive or satisfying.

I hate when people get on you for stuff like that. I went to an ECW show once in Boston and a group of kids kept screaming "MARKS" "YOU'RE ALL MARKS..LOSERS!!" Some people take the technical part of wrestling overly serious. Same way some people mock you for listening to "Mainstream music" since its all crap despite being the most popular.
I've tried watching TNA and I get the same reaction I get from an episode of RAW these days "meh"

I'll admit, I have marked harder and more often for ROH than I have for the WWE since the Benoit World Title win. But, it's just because ROH gives what I want to see on a more consistent basis. WWE is more than capable of doing the same, they're just going in a different direction. I still watch it, and although I don't enjoy it to the same extent as I used to, I'm still a WWE fan.

don't forget who anyone who only follows wwe and ejoys what the wwe is producing is "a mindless sheep" since they won't give a standing ovation to Regal vs. finlay and like hornswoggle.

Actually, it's more vogue to look down on TNA. That was my experience on a TNA message board (of all places!). When I tried to point out what TNA had going for it, I'd get shot down by WWE clowns that just happened to be on a TNA board. It's just childish and pointless after a while.
It doesn't really matter in the long run. The wrestling business tries so, so hard to recreate the magic from days long gone. It just won't work.
Neither organization is at their peak. Neither is putting out stuff that I would consider "must-watch!". Because of the internet, I don't even have to have decent cable to follow wrestling.
I hate to say it but the business needs another "ECW", an upstart that has something that most fans will like. I really like ROH for that reason alone (based on the matches I've seen).
Regardless, even if I had decent cable now, I can't guarantee I'd watch WWE or even TNA programming.

Trust me, the author of the thread is a huge wrestling fan. I've written for his site in the past. And Wrestlecrap is a superior online wrestling community when compared to others.

That would be similar to Linux or Mac people looking down on Windows users.
Like Windows, WWE is the mainstream, and TNA/ROH/etc. are the underdogs like Linux and Macs.
It's the minority wanting to feel special, who believe that the majority are a bunch of dumb conformists.

It goes both ways.
TNA fans hate WWE fans and WWE fans hate TNA fans. The hatred is spread much like peanut butter on jelly.

some people do think its cool to look down on wwe fans because theres always a group of people who feel better about themselves by liking things that arent the mainstream/norm and thinking theyre superior and that the people who do enjoy the mainstream (wwe in this case) are ignorant sheep, but the truely ignorant ones are the people who close their minds off to enjoying the good things that come from from both the mainstream and the alternatives
but the elitism that really pisses me off in wrestling fans is the smarks who like to look down on 'marks' and consider themselves insiders because they read WON or F4W, even the smarkiest of smarks is still a mark at heart as is every one of us on the outside looking in
