Larry Sweeney Segment Back on DVD

Well, I was a little hasty in pulling "The Larry Sweeney Show Starring Larry Sweeney" from the 6th Anniversary Show DVD (mostly due to my lovely & beautiful wife yelling at me over it). After putting together the DVD last night, I felt that this segment needed to go on so you could judge it for yourself.

I stand by my apology and once again apologize if you were offended. Our goal in ROH is not to be controversial or offensive like some promotions. Our goal is to give you an enjoyable wrestling product. I still maintain that you will not see anything like this from ROH again.

Hopefully we'll have this DVD out in the next few weeks. Myself and our production staff are all very proud of it with Shiozaki vs. Aries, Strong vs. Stevens vs. Necro and Nigel vs. Bryan all being stand out matches. Thank you.

I'm very glad to hear this. We get to judge it for ourselves now, and more than likely find out it wasn't half of what it was cracked up to be.

When I first read about the skit, I though it sounded like a rehash of the old "Animal House"
scene with Pinto and the Mayors daughter. In some cases writers are fans also and enjoy paying homage to others.

i still don't know what happened. What went down? From what I've heard of the skit, Dempsey prentended to rape a girl while Sweney cheered him on with obsene language. Is that correct?

No, T&C -- which kind of makes the whole uproar even more ridiculous. Sweeney knocked Alison Danger out from behind by hitting her over the head with his microphone. After Danger hit the mat (with her legs spread open), Sweeney told Dempsey that it was finally time for him to become a man. Dempsey refused and was rewarded by also getting knocked out from behind; with the punchline being that he landed squarely on top of Danger in a 'compromising' position.

Maybe I get too much fumes from SF in my neck of the West Coast, but nothing about this angle can be explained away or brushed aside as people overreacting. Unless it's posted online, I really can't say for myself what I think of it, but just basing it on what I heard... I think I would probably find it sick and wrong.

So, Sweeney cracks a sexual joke about Danger, then Bobby is knocked out and lands on top of her? I don't know why some people find that offensive. I've seen much worse stuff from WWE, TNA, CZW, WCW, ECW et al.

The only thing I took exception to in the whole thing, was how Sweeney cracked Allison in the head with the microphone and knocked her out. At least if he would have gotten booed for it, it would have made him seem like a huge heel a la Robert Roode knocking down Sharmell and being painted as a huge dick for it. Instead, the live reports seem to indicate that he got a huge babyface pop for it. That is what I don't like. I don't have a problem with people who do like that kind of thing since I know it's not real, but still I just get uncomfortable seeing men beat up women and get cheered for it.

I actually didn't have an issue with anything that happened after it, because it seemed basically just like Sweeney was being a loudmouth jerk like he always does. It's not like Dempsey actually pretended to have sex with her.

I think it might've been the fact one of the briscoes (I forget which) was hanging from the thing that held the ROH tag titles, and his blood was dripping onto Jimmy Jacobs.

Just guessing, though, I can't be sure myself. But then these are the same guys who unmasked Jigsaw in a backstage Videowire segment...
