You know what's really interesting? You, or someone in your house, is (hopefully) paying a cable/satellite bill for you to watch "utter crap".
You don't like the product presented before you? Well, I know my remote has a zillion buttons on it, and I wouldn't go as far as to say you can change the channel (clap clap clapclapclap).
Oh, you can be assured I am skipping next week.
Only a few percent of the viewers purchase the Pay per Views.
Someone is selling something that while folks will enjoy, they won't spend money on.
You see, when promotions book, they need to keep it simple. All socioeconomic groups should be able to understand it and see what the issue is and be able to want to see the next level of match (PURCHASE the PPV). When you get down to Stone Cold vs. McMahon, It was common worker vs. a--hole boss. Simple.
Batista vs. HHH. Abused member of group vs. Arrogant cowardly leader. Ric Flair vs. Dusty Rhodes. Arrogant champ vs. Common Man. Same as Rock vs. Stone Cold.
Both of those feuds built for a while and people bought tickets.
how long does TNA build a feud for ? 1 month. maybe 2 and it ends. Some of those others were built for months and made money for years.
Some folks might like Eugene or Jamie Knoble or Festus, but you won't watch them headline Wrestlemania or Rumble. That doesn't have anything do with the work of the person. It has to do with the Character. Eugene. the character, couldn't main event because the fans wouldn't pay the bucks.
As far as being buried, let's look at what AJ could be. Aj is extremely talented. AJ can do a very good match with many and an excellent match with some. Aj is very pushable and this takes away. Aj can stand on his on. By adding, in all of the sports entertainment stuff, it takes away from him. AJ could be used very well. Some of you are right, He isn't being used the way I like him. Aj could be pushed to the top, but they don't. Now by making him a comedy figure, they have to over come it when they push him again.
As far Tomko, I have been high on Tomko for years. I actually think if he was Mordecai, instead of Kevin Thorn, that character could have gotten over and had a nice feud with Undertaker. What I saw of what they are doing with him might actually be Ok if they don't screw it up.
Tna was in the hole so much, can they ever get out? Sooner or later, the Carters have to have a profit. How can you get one when you can't get the viewers to the free show, buy tix PPV's.
Who cares about a ratings point unless those ratings become buys? Spike likes the rating, but TNA doesn't get lots of money for going up a tenth of a point. The program is an infomercial. That hour should sell the PPV and create revenue. The PPV is the money maker and the payoff. Not the TV Show. A 1.2 Rating could be gotten by a test pattern on good night.
The basic things about Wrestling that folks forget is Making money. I am not a Vince fan, but he makes money. WWE and TNA have it correct that fans must be able to see superstars and want to but tickets. TNA is mistaken that the stars they can push are from WWE. People like homegrown stars. Paul E. didn't have Sandman job to Jungle Jim Steel. Tna Should have kept the stars they have and push them with the new folks instead of dropping them to midlevel.
Aj is comedy, Hello Santino Marrella.
Samoa Joe complains. Hello Bob Holly.
Chris Daniels is fired, Whatever.
LAX, Just another tag team now.
New stars are made when Old Stars do jobs. Dallas Page got over by beating Randy Savage in his feud. HHH got over by beating Mick Foley. Sabu got over beating terry Funk. Wins and losses mean something. You don't get the sense that many new star will be made by having such quick matches and focusing on entertainment.
It is just disheartening when TNA has so much potential to be great and they leave so much money on the table. I believe a more athletic based product with realism would really catch on and now they have went so far storyline and comedy based, they may not recover.
Folks want athlectic competition. Hense, the increase of popularity in MMA. Folks want Drama. De La Hoya- MayWeather.
Fans will buy tickets and buy PPV's if they want to see it. Wrestling is worked, and can do it better than others. Why write some funky entertainment product which isn't one of your strenghts?
How many folks who love TNA here buy the damm pay per views? Some of them probably watch a torrent, check the match out on youtube, or tune into a webcam broadcast or something like that. If it so great, drop your 30 bucks!
To close, Wrestling is for the Causual Fans, not the Hardcores. There are more than them than ever will be of the hardcores. You have to get the casual fans excited about the product. They have to see something they can grab and cheer for or boo. Very few fans of any league visit any website. Very few ever get the newsletter. If ROH had the chances TNA did, I doubt they would be doing the same thing as TNA and I would guess they would have made more money or at least left less money on the table.
They have very good pay per views normally, why turn people off with the show.
Oh, well, I can't fault TNA too much. I am glad wrestling still has fans after the Benoit Tragedy. I loved Jim Crockett promotions at its worst. At least, having TNA around it keeps Terry Taylor from walking the streets.
Just my $0.02 and Humble O!
