RD, I admit... When I saw Carlito's vignettes I rolled my eyes and was NOT looking forward to his debut. But I really have to disagree with you on your "flinging enough crap against the wall to stick" comment. The writer's actually did a good job with Carlito.
Just the heat he brought in by CONFRONTING John Cena was enough to put him over; winning the US title was mere icing on the cake. The way he trash-talked and punked out Cena, not to mention the clever way he worked in the Red Sox jab in Beantown, already made him a star. He cracks me up every week on the mic too; Razor wasn't always this funny.
And come on... how many people still get TV time EVERY WEEK when they're injured? Carlito thus far is a success! Which can't be said for the OTHER recent debuters: Hassan, Dean and Masters. Let's see, would you like your first feud to be against Rosey, Stevie Richards, Jerry Lawler or John Cena? Hmmm...?

Funny thing: I am good friends with a man who was briefly on the WWE writing team. Although he had nothing to do with them, he was there when they came up with Carlito, Mordecai and Hirohito.
Vince had told another one of the writers to look at old Razor vignettes to get an idea of what to with Carlito. This guy ended up just completely reusing them almost wholesale for Carlito's vignettes. When Vince saw them, he was pissed, but too much money had already been spent on them, so that's what he went with.

I was pretty skeptical about the whole Carlito thing. But oddly the character grew on me. I didn't care for Razor at first either but i would up liking him. Now Mordecai I thought was a very cool character that I could see involved in a huge feud with Taker. As far as Suzuki, I see this as just another person, Like Ultimo, Paul London, Akio, and many others. Wasted talent. I think Vince just signs some of these people so nobody else can use them.

When Carlito first came to the WWE and I saw a couple of his promos I thought he was going to suck. But after I watched him wrestle and cut several promos I was highly impressed. Now I can't wait for him to return to action! At first he seemed like a carbon copy of Razor Ramon until I heard him cut loose on his opponents and punking out other people.

Any idea when he's back in the ring and what they've got lined up for him?

Awesome, I'm glad I'm not the only guy who forgave and forgot the vignettes. Carlito's spots I imagine stop many a viewer from changing the channel when SD! goes 1/2 hour without an actual match. I feel for the poor people in the crowd though.
And since it's lookin' like Cena will be the one to finally put an end to Vince's WWE title project that amuses no one but himself. I say Carlito should get the US title back after the shoulder heals. *Maybe* Orlando deserved a bit of a push, but is anyone looking forward to a long and illustrious JBL-like reign? I didn't think so...

Carlito grew on me, but only because he was beating up John Cena, then I liked him anyways.

I love carlito's character, just something about him. i really dig the angle with him and teddy long, they work great together.
But, i'm kinda worried when he gets back in the ring. by all reports and from my limited viewing of his matches in OVW...he needs alot of work in there.

I loved last week when he humiliated that kid by squeezing ketchup all over him, then ate his hotdog.

Razor Ramon was way better than Carlito. Razor had the look, the style and was original when he debuted in the WWF in 1993. Razor was different than other wrestlers and thats the reason he was over with the fans. Carlito has a below average physique and his ring skills are not polished either. Carlito is a Razor Ramon rip off and thats definitely not cool with me.

At first I had no idea who he was. By the look of him, I though he was from Tough ENough or something. But then I heard he was a 2nd generation superstar and his interviews are funny. It's just too bad i can never watch SmackDown!. Never saw himwrestle not once.

He made a suprise appearence at the WRESTLEMANIA revenge tour and got one of the biggest pops, Jintrack came out to chase him off and got booed out of the buiding... once we realised who he was.
