First of all, I am going to try to get my rear in gear tomorrow prior to Mania and actually answer some of the posts around here, following my self-imposed forum exile to carry out my fiendish April Fool's prank.
Second, I went to see Sin City today. I'm sure others here have seen it, so I have to ask: was it wrong of the wife and me to be literally laughing OUTLOUD at the over the top violence? It was so absurd that by the time of the third or fourth beheading that we were looking for the vendor selling the "Been there, done that, got the t-shirt" t-shirts.
I don't even know if I liked the movie or not it was so stupidly violent. I can't believe that thing escaped with an R-rating. I wasn't so much offended by the violence as I was amused that we were supposed to, I think, take it seriously...

I think, from just watching interviews with people involved, that the violence was supposed to make you start laughing because of how far over the top it was.
I mean, look, Quentin Tarintino had a hand with this movie, and is friend with the guy that made the majority of the movie. Given QT's track record, I don't think it's possible to even take the violence seriously.
Personally, I enjoyed it. I look at it like Pulp Fiction meets Die Hard meets Kill Bill.

SPOILERS! IF YOU READ IT, DON'T B!TCH.
I enjoyed Sin City quite a bit, but not for the over the top violence. I liked how it was a visually perfect rendition of Frank Miller's drawing style. It really captured the feel of the books more than any comic movie so far.
But yeah, we all laughed out loud during the violent parts too. When Marv was dragging that guy by his face from the car? Ha!!!! Of course some people brought their kids with 'em. "It's a comic movie, right?" Stupid people.
My big thing was how creepy Elijah Wood was. I think it was just how non plussed he was about eating prostitutes and mounting their heads (not like that pervos).

Yea, in that seen he pulls a Snitsky with "I'm Having A Ball!". I died laughing at that. I thought it was a good movie, it made me laugh so much, I just thought it was a little long at times, kinda dragged on. But stayed true to the comic as best as i think it could have.

I think the violence was designed to be absurd, over the top, and not to be taken seriously at all. I laughed at some of it myself.
I thought it was a pretty cool by the way. Mickey Rourke, in a good movie? Whoda thunk it?

I saw Jessica Alba in NY live at a Late Late Late Night taping promoting Sin City, I want to see it. She is seriously the most gorgeous girl I have ever seen in person. ever

Which scene was Tarantino's? Enquiring minds want to know! Scene from The Big Fat Kill (middle installment) where Benicio and Clive Owen are in the car, I think it's the one where they're pulled over. Thought it was the perfect adaptation of the books. A better Sin City movie couldn't have been made, IMO (well, if they had done a Dame To Kill For instead of BFK, maybe).
