There is a match on the fourth volume of Wrestling Gold, between Bulldog Don Kent of the Fabulous Kangaroos and Chief Jay Strongbow, which is fought in a shark cage. As in a cage just big enough for a man to stand comfortably in and be lowered into shark infested waters. In the first few seconds you realize why these matches don't happen all the time. Because all they can do is choke and punch, and try desperately to act like it would be hard for one of them to pull the yellow screw driver out of the cage door latch and walk out to win. It doesn't even finish clean, with Mark Lewin doing a run-in and choking Kent through the bars of the tiny cage so that Strongbow can walk three inches to escape. Like watching men wrestle in a phone booth.
I was curious if you'd seen this match and if so what your thoughts were on it. Dave Meltzer and Jim Cornette mention that Vince Russo was perhaps in the shadows somewhere because this seems like one of his ideas.
Sincerely, Joe Newberry
