I go to school with a bunch of people who listens to rap. In other words, they are wangsters. Today, I bought my CD player to school with a Rob Zombie CD in in. This one kid asked me what am I listining to. I showed him my CD and he said it's crap. He told me that I need to listen to hip-hop and dress like a rapper. He also told me told be a skater.
Now, I do not like rap, and I'm certainly don't want to be a wangster. I'm not good at skating nor do I like it. But I want to be popular at my school. If I don't become a wangster, I will be unpopular. If I become a wangster, I will be ashamed of myself. What should I do?

My suggestion is listen to more extreme bands just to piss them off even more! I suggest Deicide, Emperor and maybe a little bit of Slayer, bit of Arch Enemy, know what I'm sayin?

Since we're all wrestling fans here, I say crank up some wrestling themes! Drive around slowly with the windows down, turn up the volume, and pop in Eric Bischoff's theme! "I'M BA-AAACK!" After all, if these people are going to rip on your taste in music anyway, you might as well annoy the piss out of them too.
By the way, Rob Zombie is awesome. Don't listen to those punks who probably shine their nuts with pics of Justin Timberlake.

Listen to Rob Zombie---It beats the crap out of the majority of rap--Besides weakness is always evident when giving into peer pressure.

I had the same problem in school. I said screw this rap crap, and was an outspoken fan of the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and about every other band from 1964-1984. I wasn't the most popular guy, but I wasn't about to compromise my identity for that.

You don't have to fit in with a certain group to be considered popular in school. If u make friends with all the different cliques in school, then everyone likes you. Hell, that's what I did, and I was voted prom king my senior year.

I had a similar problem when I went to school. I was never much into the current music scene; my parents introduced me to artists like Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffett, Bob Dylan, and so on. I was probably the only kid who listened to the oldies station. Did I get teased about it? Yeah, especially in junior high. But I always said "fornicate 'em; I'm not going to give up something I love just to please some kids I'll likely forget about once I graduate." Stick with whatever you like.

I'm a rap fan but you gota do you man, be yourself, don't listen to these other fools. If they knew that much they'd realise rappers don't just listen to rap either. Just like I don't, I throw on some soul/motown/R&B now and again too.

Me like Bob Dylan, he's the bestest dude ever.
Okay, seriously.
No need to become a so-called 'wangster', that just sounds more retarded then Eugene.
Become, YOU, because you are the best you, you can be.
I read that somewhere, and it actually sounds like the right advice.
When I went to school, I listened to Dylan, Woody Guthrie,. Tom Waits, Morrissey, The Smiths, (some) Springsteen, Spandau Ballet and others, and while others would be listening to whatever pop music played on MTV or the radio, that stuff really has no lasting value to it in the long run.
It's like John Wesley Harding said:
"All my friends turned up their noses At Freewheelin' and For The Roses Preferring image over substance A hairstyle for a musical influence All those Ultravox records, they're gathering dust But me, I'm still listening to Live Rust And if the 90's are the 60's turned upside down Then the 80's were the 60's the right way up Only with half the top cut off…<br>.....think about it!"
I lost track....what was the topic?

Well, man, people are going to tell you what to like throughout your life. Your friends, however, will wonder why you like what you like. -- they'll learn from your tastes and you'll learn from their tastes.

Get a jump start on what everyone will be listening to in college and listen to Radiohead.
EDIT: Or tell them to stop listening to that Lil' Jon bling bling ridin' spinnas bullshit, and start listening to Public Enemy.

Ach this popularity thing is over-rated. I have red hair so in high achool that's a mark against me from day one. I debated trying to fit in by various means but eventually decided screw it....Carved myself a niche as a weirdo. Also if it would make you ashamed of yourself then that's a clear indication you shouldn't do it
I do that myself. Got a whole folder of wrestling themes on my mp3 player

Open the gates bro. I used to hate all things rap, but now I know there's a lot of good stuff there. I am primarily a modern and clssic rock guy, but you cannot deny good beats and tight lyrics (ex. Kanye West, Jay-Z, Otukast). It's ok to like more than one genre of music...except that Lil' jon crunk shit..that sucks.

Crunk is just a rap rip off of metal. They even mosh now the just call it being "crunk". I agree with the previous post. Do what feels right man. School will be over before you know it. As far as rap goes some of it is OK (kanye Mos Def) other than that I'm a fan of Alt rock from the 90's.
I'm also assuming that Wangster = Wigger?? I have this horrible fear that my kids will become wangsters (4yrs and 7months). I just pray that i can lead them away from it. My 4 year old actually loves Pearl Jam and the Chili Peppers, so, so far I'm doing good.
