I know people on the Internet, since they can say and do whatever they want with no real-life implication, get all up in arms whenever someone suggests race plays a part in anything, but why does there seem to be all this hate for Tyler Perry? Honestly, I doubt there would be a lot of 'Crappers carrying on like this if Perry was white comedian or played in a metal band.
I enjoy the Madea plays and movies, but do not care for "House of Payne." That said, I don't find it "disgusting" that he has made a lot of money with his "crap," like some on here. The man has become very wealthy in an industry based on one's ability to entertain. It's not like he was washing dishes and the owner gave him $100 million just for the hell of it.

The title of this thread should be changed to "Tyler Perry's Tyler Perry Made $125 Tyler Perry's Million Last Tyler Perry's Year" Epic. Good for him, though. As Killah Ray pointed out, once you know his story, it's pretty feel-good - even if his works aren't really anything to write home about.

I think this forum is ripe with plenty of anti discriminatory color blind hate for a lot of "crap". Doesnt matter if its done by a white or a black , male or female. If someone sees it as "junk" they usually express their displeasure for it. I watched 5 minutes to see what the hype was. I didnt get it, I certainly didnt get it to why someone would give the guy $100 mil to do it for the next 5-10 years

Fun fact: Tyler Perry's show was renewed for 100 EPISODES after it's initial run on TBS. I wish I was making this number up, because the show is terrible, and no terrible show deserves to exist. Somebody on ESPN.com put it into perspective when trying to explain Tyler Perry's confounding success when he said, "Tyler Perry is to black people as Dane Cook is to white people. Nobody understands it, but somehow they are successful." I don't think Dane Cook is funny, but I get why people think he is. He talks about real life feelings, real life situations. You can think back to a time like he's describing, and relate to it. Really, you're laughing at him and yourself. Tyler Perry, on the other hand, never has humorous situations in his "sitcom". I never found anything of his even possible to be construed as humor.

I repeat, Tyler Perry's comedy is very very southern orientated....and it appeals to me and pretty much everybody I know....but I don't mind too much criticism about it because everyone has their likes and dislikes....many of the things others like on this forum it doesn't appeal to me at all but I don't go overboard with calling it "crap" just because I don't like it....

I'm not surprised. He has found a genre that hasn't been tapped into for years and it is working really well for him. Minstrel show? Somebody on ESPN.com put it into perspective when trying to explain Tyler Perry's confounding success when he said, "Tyler Perry is to black people as Dane Cook is to white people. Nobody understands it, but somehow they are successful." I can understand Dane Cook a little more, but eh. Good for Tyler. He probably has a fantastic agent, or knows how to have a contract written to get this kind of cash. I don't like Tyler's stuff, myself, but if you can find an audience that'll buy, go ahead and sell it, you know?

Maybe it's more like a Virginia, Georgia, Carolina sort of Southern thing, since I'm Texan and no one I know watches it.

Lot's of people like Tyler Perry, and a wide array of people. I can attest to that as his DVD's rent like crazy at my store.

Southeastern would've been the better way to say it but yeah that general area his stuff is huge around here....

Yes, Hotrod. We had State History, US History and World History. Though I can't recall if US and World were one class or two.

Texas is in it's own world anyway Bradley. If "Germany or Florida?" could fit one more slot into the game, it's probably be Texas. A lot of weird crap happens here.

Yeah, Dane Cook gets a lot of hate on this board, so that kind of trumps that race card, doesn't it? Also, I'm curious. Are you allowed to hate white comedians, or is that somehow not race-related? Can I not like rap, or am I just a big racist? Please set me straight. I mean, you are the expert, right?
