That's more than Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise and Bon Jovi combined. According to an article. I for one am shocked. Is anyone here impressed with him at all?

House of Payne is the worst sitcom I've ever watched, and I'm a big fan of sitcoms. I haven't seen his movies, but a black man dressing up as a fat black woman hasn't been funny for a decade.
His new movie looks good though. I just saw the commercial yesterday.

I'm not surprised. He has found a genre that hasn't been tapped into for years and it is working really well for him.

The title of this thread should be changed to "Tyler Perry's Tyler Perry Made $125 Tyler Perry's Million Last Tyler Perry's Year"

I actually enjoy his movies, but then again I was a fan of his plays, I am waiting for Madea goes to Jail as it was one of the funniest ones, as well as I can do bad all by myself. He deserves the success he's getting.

The Madea routine works because the joke isn't supposed to be that a man plays the character...it's the fact that the character is so OC that gets him/her over with audiences.
House of Payne is garbage but Perry's plays were all gold except for I Can Do Bad All By Myself. The movies range from decent to ass.

Eh. I think his movies are okay. But I'm black. Maybe that has something to do with it?...I keed.
But if he's made that much, good for him. Doesn't affect me.

Its crazy... at work people swarm to get Tyler Perry's crap. I don't even understand it. I also don't understand how the hell Tyler Perry managed to get his name before all his crap either. Nobody else gets that sort of treatment. Its like just him and Steven King.

His work is more southern oriented so I actually love his stuff after being skeptical of it at first....and I love House of Payne....very entertaining show.....his story is incredible though from going homeless to a huge millionaire....

Somebody on ESPN.com put it into perspective when trying to explain Tyler Perry's confounding success when he said, "Tyler Perry is to black people as Dane Cook is to white people. Nobody understands it, but somehow they are successful."

Honestly not a big fan of his at all, but I bet that's because I'm not in his target audience 23 year old white guy. I get what he's trying to accomplish honestly nut to me he fails at it and his dialogue ranges from rudimentary to honestly offensive.
That being said he's at his best though in dramas where he's not having crazy southern black characters that come off as a bad caricature of stereotypes of blacks in the thirties. Also the Dane Cook thing doesn't ring true because nothing Dane Cook was black it wouldn't really offensive at all while Tyler Perry's stuff if he was white would offend everybody.

Wow. Wonder if some of that is because of that 100 episode order from TBS.

Wow. Wonder if some of that is because of that 100 episode order from TBS. Didn't he get something like 100 million dollars up front without TBS even seeing an episode? It was a crazy deal.

I see his commercials on TBS and they declare it "Cable TV's #1 sitcom" which is like odd to begin with since I never heard of it or him. Same like when they say "TV's #1 drama, the Closr" WTFs the closer?
