You should make sure to tune in this week. I just finished watching the show, and it was really good. I just read the spoilers now, and it looks like it came off just as well on TV as it did on paper.
The opening eight man tag was really good. It wasn't as exciting or action packed as that great 8 man on Raw, but it was still fun. They saved Jeff for the very end of the match to get the hot tag and he cleaned house. Swanton on MVP got a major pop. I don't know if Jeff is quite as over now as he was back in February, but it's really close. I really doubt they will put the belt on him Sunday, but should they choose to I really don't think there would be a drop off from H to Jeff. They're both about equally over from what I can tell.
As for MVP .... maybe that heat story about him WAS true. I can't make heads or tails of what they're doing with him lately. If this is his future on Smackdown then send him to ECW or something. Somewhere that he'll be used in a non-jobbertastic role.
Line of the night came during the Shelton Benjamin/Santino match. Actually, before the match. As Santino makes his way down to the ring we got our second Hurricane Helms cameo of the night.
"Santino Marella. Maaan, the Honky Tonk Man would be rolling over in his grave if ........
.......he ain't dead?
......
.....
.....
......I'm just sayin..."
BTW, in case you didn't know Ron Killings is OVER. I mean, over huge right now. Looks like he will be the one to take the US Title from Shelton down the road. Santino calling himself "Champion of all the land masses protruding above tha sea level" was tremendous too.
Admittedly the show took a steep turn downhill for about 15-20 minutes during the entire Big Show/Chavo/Henry/Khali bit. This Taker vs. Big Show feud has all the momentum of some nasty gunk in a clogged drain. I hope it's one and done after Sunday.
Show picked right back up after this though. Had another big tag match, with GenNext vs. The Colons & CM Punk. I'll say this right now, say what you want about piped in cheers and the like, but watch the crowd during a CM Punk entrance these days. That guy is loved and it's only getting bigger. I think anyone who still says his title reign was pointless and a waste of time need to seriously reevaluate that stance. Without it I don't think he'd be close to as over as he is now.
Tag was short but fine. Punk takes down another of Orton's little posse. I can only guess after he pins Manu that Orton will be on the horizon. He is due back in the ring towards the middle of this month from what I read. Can't wait for that one.
Beth Phoenix and Michelle McCool in a "My gosh ... look how much better and talented Beth is than Michelle" match. First time in a while Michelle has been in there with someone vastly skilled in the ring and man did her weaknesses show through. Beth owned her in this match. Glad to see she won too. Hopefully the Candice match ends with the same result.
The main event triple threat was alright. Fun little match. Though seeing as they had a CLEAN finish it does beg the question as to why you throw out a Champion vs. Champion vs. Champion match on a show whos' ratings have been holding steady for some time now. Slumping B-Show PPV could have used this. RAW definitely could have used it. HHH wins (shocking millions worldwide) then gets laid out first by Jericho, then by Jeff Hardy, THEN by Vladimir Kozlov. Crowd ate up Jeff laying in to The Game. The fans really seem to want this title change, but I just don't think it's going to happen.
Anyway yeah, so Smackdown was really good this week. If you normally skip it I'd suggest tracking down MyNetwork TV tonight and watching it or DVRing it for later. It's worth a watch.
