Yeah, so I get my cable through Charter, and I use their "bundle" package with telephone and hi-speed internet included- considering my financial situation, it's more practical for me right now rather than just switching to DirecTV.
At this point, though, DirecTV is looking pretty good. For whatever reason (apparently this has been building up for a while), Charter can't come to terms with Belo Corp., the company that owns St. Louis' CBS affiliate- KMOV. So as of Jan. 1, 2009, unless something gives and some kind of compromise is reach, all Charter customers will lose the KMOV signal.
Even though I blame both sides, I just wrote Charter a letter. I don't watch a lot on KMOV as of late, but I certainly don't want to miss the NFL playoffs, the Late Show, How I Met Your Mother, Christine, or definitely not their local news, which I find to be credible- at least when compared to my Fox affiliate, where they don't seem to give a s***.

If everything goes to pot, get some bunny ears or something. As long as your TV has the integrated digital tuner, you can pick up the channels you are missing with those.

the same thing happened in the Buffalo area a couple months ago where Time Warner and the CBS affiliate fought and customers up here were without the CBS and CW affiliates (same company) for like 3 weeks. It was funny, to fill in the holes Time Warner stuck College Sports TV on the CBS station and HBO Family instead of CW.

I heard about this too which why I'm glad I don't have charter. Let me tell you that Charter has been on my bad side already. Which is why I no longer do business with them.
Which that long is a long story of the Crappy Service they gave me. Basicly they would have to do a lot for me to even go back.

Eh, complain to them.
Enough complaints, and they'll carry it.

This happened to me with Suddenlink and the local NBC affiliate this time last year. On 1/1 we got a blue screen where the NBC channel was. After a week we started getting the Dallas NBC affiliate. About 2 months later the money issues were solved and we got the local affiliate back.
Cable companies (and cable channels/affiliates) are just assholes and everything is coming down to monetary issues now. And we're the ones who pay for their greed.

Dish Network had problems with a contract with the ABC affiliate in the Albany area, though it didn't seem to take long for them to resolve the problem.
