The VHS isn't all but useless and defeated. When it comes to longevity, a DVD can become a defect and all data on it is unretrievable. so it can be unpredictable. With a video, only the quality of picture could fade, but you wouldn't lose it unless you physically broke it. You don't have to physically bread a DVD or CD for that matter, for it to become inept.
I rest my case!

Plus the Phantasm movies still aren't out on DVD yet. They are over here. Just get thee a multi-region player. According to Wikipedia, Anchor Bay Entertainment, which also released alot of Dario Argento's and George Romero's movies and the Evil Dead movies, has released Phantasm III, IV, and V on DVD. This is the first I've heard of this. WHY MUST YOU GUYS WITHHOLD IMPORTANT INFORMATION LIKE THIS FROM ME??? I have to go shopping. EDIT - There's no Phantasm V!That explains why I've never seen it.snorking lying Wikipedia, I got all excited.

Another vote for the "I like videos" cause, because the most they can mess up is the screen flipping, where dvds can skip, stop, or not start. dvd's can have more options like with the extras and making of's and all of that, but if it's just a show or one thing, a video is better, dvd is good for commentary tracks and that sort of thing

Well, I think blank VHS will be around a bit longer, unless someone knows of a cheaper technology for recording stuff. Now, if I could only get around to digitizing everything.
Also, kudos for finding an article that doesn't laud the Adult Films industry in the development of the format. That gets annoying fast.

Walmart, Kmart and Target all still sell blank vhs tapes by the dozen. Usually 9 to 13 dollars a bundle.
Ive been kicking around the idea of hoarding them. Ive still got 3 unopened 12 packs of RCA and Sony 6 hour tapes sitting in the closet from my days of religiously copying the WWE programs from back in 2002.

I still use my VCR, because it's a hi fi vcr and I run some of my television audio through it into my stereo system. It's got great sound output ...

I'll never give up on VHS-I'll take all the tapes I can get. I LOVE finding old video stores selling out-it's bittersweet-I hate that they're closing, but I'm more than happy to buy their stock

Well, you knew it would happen eventually.
I personally think Blu-Ray won't last too long either. I think once they get stronger internet capabilites, digital distribution will be the next step. And I think that's coming very soon, with Microsoft already devoted to that method with the 360 and all three console companies talking about distributing their entire game libraries online. I know that might not seem related, but a game takes alot more room than a movie, even an HD one. And if they can do full games digitally, movies would take little to no effort.

I still have many old WWF VHS tapes. The VHS won't ever "die" as long as people are using them in their homes.

I hope DVDs aren't obsolete in three or four years.I'd hate having to re-buy everything again. Plus the Phantasm movies still aren't out on DVD yet. Unlike the VHS-to-DVD transition, you won't have to re-buy anything for the DVD-to-Blu Ray transition. Blu Ray players play DVDs and infact make them look better than they do on normal DVD players.

Strotha, I don't know where you are from, but if you're from the U.S. and want that set make sure you have a region 2 or region free DVD player. You're average player here in the us is Region 1.

How ironic, that there are VHS movie boxes with better artwork than the same ones on DVD.

I do live in the US.I actually have a region free player because I love foreign movies, and sometimes I can only get the DVDs if I order them from another country, so I figured it would be a good idea to buy one.
