I'm dating a "super Catholic" dude and he's invited me over for the whole Christmas with the family thing. Problem is, I'm not Christian and my family has never celebrated Christmas. Sure, I've done secret Santas with friends and stuff but I've never had to worry about getting a special gift.
So it's about noonish on Christmas Eve and I have notttttthing to give. I just don't know what the F I'm supposed to get my boyfriend for Christmas. Do I get his family shit too? Do I have to get my family shit if I buy shit for other people's family? I'm using the word shit to see what the filter for it is now.
So folks. Any ideas for last minute gifts? Truthfully I would do something "dirty" or whatever but we're opening gifts with his f'n family. So that easy way out is a no go. I made him a cat collage on photoshop but I don't think he'd appreciate that like I would. Well truthfully he does as he's a huge cat lover too but a COLLAGE?! Lame.
The only thing I have is that I'm going to Best Buy to pick up a new mouse and keyboard as both of his are either really crappy or not working at all, so he needs new ones. Romantic, huh?
Grrrrrrowl.

Well,I'm a Christian but not Catholic but I'm guessing it really wouldn't matter. I have some Catholic friends and to the best of my knowledge, they don't get anything special or different than I do. It's usually the thought that counts. That may not be much help but I thought I'd give you a Christian point of view. I'm sure he'll appreciate whatever you get him. As for his family, you can get them something but I don't think it's a must. It would kind of depend on how long you've been dating him. If it's been a while,it may be nice to get his parents something but if it has only been a short time,I don't know if I would worry about it or not.

I'm not religious myself, and I just like the Xmas time for what it represents.... get rid of all the bullshit and just be cool to each other. Doesn't always happen, but that's what I like to take away from it.

In theory I'm Catholic, and I can totally assure you there isn't a "special" gift you have to bring...
A gift-card, a DVD, a bottle of wine, some flowers to his mom... It's really no different than bringing something to any other regular family under any other non-religious occasion.
Unless, of course, you're dating some ultra-Catholic zealot. In that case, don't bother, as Christmas gifts are the epitome of the evil and greedy capitalism that killed the true meaning of the Nativity,,,

Go to the garage and buy chocolates for in front of the family.
Make a book of love coupons to give in private, of course this will be a bad idea if he's a real super catholic.

bottle of nice wine for dinner. Yeah, this is always the fool-proof gift. Get a decent bottle of wine for his parents and you're set. Baking cookies/brownies/etc. is also a good choice. I like to avoid gift cards because they come across as impersonal.

Yeah, this totally wasn't meant to be religious-y. I just mentioned him being super Catholic to note the importance of Christmas to him and his family. This was pretty much just a "what the heck do I get for my boyfriend who is really into Christmas while I never have celebrated it at all."
I'm making him a card... bought him stuff he needs (new mouse & keyboard)... and kinda started working on a "coupon" for a steak dinner made by me & George Foreman... do I need more?

I'd also recommend a certain beer which has frankincense and myrrh brewed into it but I think the rules of this forum prevent me from talking about it.
other than that I'd go with a cheap nutcracker

I wouldn't think so. Then again, I've conclusion the best gift I've ever bought anyone is the gift I got for my dog this year....so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.
