Anybody else catch Sidney Crosby's fight during the Penguins-Thrashers game last night? Crosby sucker-punched a guy in the back of the head while the Thrasher was on his knees on the ice, then as the player was bent over and wrapped up while fighting another Penguin, Crosby snuck in and punched him in the balls twice. Well that looks like a suspension. If only the Pens had another young up-and-coming center to take Crosbys place as the star of the Penguins...

HAHAHA ! I love the way Sid fights ;D Would have been funnier if that were Colby Armstrong he was wailin' on like that, since they're best buddies.
Doubt anything will happen to Sir Sidney though.

Hey guys, who are some of the top players that could be moved by the trading deadline this year? Ilya Kovalchuk is the hot property this season. He's with a struggling team and they don't seem willing / interested in building around him. They dumped his only other help in the scoring department last year (Hossa). Jordan Staal is also rumored to be shopped around. He's a solid young player who can score and is very strong in the defensive end. PK & PP abilities. On any other team, he's top 2 center.. but in Pittsburgh he's playing behind Crosby & Malkin. He's going to demand a HUGE chunk of change in the off season that the Pens simply don't have cap room for. Trade him now and get another rental player as they did last year with Hossa or wait till he signs elsewhere in the off season and get a crapload of draft picks ? Sid is still crying for a sniper on his wing. I've also heard bits about Marin St. Louis being moved.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kovalchuk and Staal trade homes.

Parise and Elias are just beastly so far. Sure it was just the Sens but they've been doing it all year.
I like how the NYC radio and tv media are reporting Brodeur could be back a month early in mid-Feb
WHICH IS COMPLETELY IN THE ORIGINAL TIMETABLE OF 3-4 MONTHS. Dumbasses.

Parise and Elias are playing their hearts out right now. If Brian Rolston really gets rolling, and Marty returns feeling fine, it's going to be a peachy keen few months.
And Crosby is an ass, by the looks of it. Not for nothing, but that was sad looking.

How is he really going to start if he's playing with Clarkson and Holik (who's playing really well but I don't think he's the most offensively inclined player)

Boumeester in Florida is also bound to be moved by the deadline. He won't resign in Florida, so they gotta get something for him.

I think he'll gain that back, and the fact that Clarkson and Holik have done good jobs at forechecking and keeping the puck mean he'll get his chance. Granted, I'd much rather he get to play with Zajac and Parise, but, understandably, Sutter doesn't want to break up the ZEG or ZZPops lines.

Question about finding a goals against average for a goalie. If a goalie is pulled after 2 and gives up 4 is it like ERA where we just average the 2 periods and four goals by themself, is it gone to 6 and 3 periods or is it just 4 goals in one game.

Good question......I had to look it up to make sure I was right. This is the number of goals allowed per 60 minutes played, rounded to two decimal points. The Formula: multiply the number of goals allowed by 60 and divide by the total number of minutes played. The Example: If you allowed 4 goals in 180 minutes your GAA is 1.33 (4 times 60 = 240. 240 divided by 180 = 1.33). The result suggests that for every full game you play, you allow 1.33 goals. Do not count empty net goals or shootout goals. source

Ok, so I think I'm ready to become a full feldged hockey fan. Two questions:
A. What are some good sites for me to brush up on the rules?
B. Who should I root for? Here are the four teams I'm considering:
1. New York Islanders: Pros-Aunt rooted for them and her rooting of the Mets in 86 made me into a Met fan, some good players (Guerin, DiPietro, Comrie, Okposo). Appear to have a decent farm system.
Cons-They've been a crappy team for a long time and I'm not good with being patient (2003 Mets made me tear my hair out.)
2. New York Rangers:
Pros-One of the better teams in the NHL. Have one of the better American players in the game (Drury). Good farm system.
Cons-Seem to be hated on here quite a lot.
3. Ottawa Senators:
Pros-Farm system is 10 minutes from my University. Superb lines.
Cons-Is an American rooting for a Canadian team gonna look bad? Also, team has been disappointment this year.
4. San Jose Sharks:
Pros-One of the top teams in the league. Rooted for them when I was a kid (First time they entered the league) and had a lot of their merch.
Cons-I kinda only rooted for them because I was obsessed with the blue-green color combo.

Depends on what kind of "brushing up" on the rules you want to do. nhl.com has the league's rulebook on-line. That's about as good as it's gonna get, otherwise you could just ask here, most of us could probably answer any rule related question you have. As far as rooting for teams, if you don't have one now, might as well wait on picking one. Watch some games, see players you like and go from there.

Thanks. Will start reading on the rules now.
After thinking about it for a bit, I'm gonna be a Rangers fan. I loved how they were attacking the Sharks offensive zone last night (Caught the end of that game.) They lost but they didn't give up at all.

Plus if you saw how they played the entire game, that was really the only time they were attacking the zone, which isn't good at all.
