so there was time when your ratings where high, and low they're low. now i'm no business genius, but surely that's a sign to look at what got you the high ratings back then, not carry on with this bollocks. i know there's issues with music videos being readily available, but you don't just have to show them. show others shows about music. that's your genre, there's more than just videos in that genre, you morons.
no one wants to innovate anymore, everyone's going through life doing the same old stuff just with a differerent newspeak name.
not to mention that nearly all of these "reality shows" have f*** all to do with reality.

Honestly - music videos were okay, but here were the reasons I watched MTV. The Maxx, Daria, The Head, The Ben Stiller Show, My So-Called Life, Clone High, Aeon Flux and, on occasions, Undressed. If they went back to this kind of programming I'd never stop watching. MTV like Nickelodeon, was a channel that I loved when I was in middle school and the early days of high school. But as I got older, the channels that I still care about have seemingly gone down the crapper with a bunch of lazy, uninnovative/uninspired, cookie cutter programming decisions.

I watch only one thing on MTV now and that is True Life. I did watch TRL's goodbye show because I used to watch it regularly when I was in high school.

Seems to me that MTV lacks long term vision. These 16 reality shows just seem like a quick fix. WSX was the perfect example of its short sightedness. You cant buy tickets to a reality show. Reality shows dont have PPVs or live events. You cant really merchandise a reality show. WSX could have been a big cash cow for MTV but they didnt give it enough time to go anywhere. They just saw that the ratings were low at that time and decided to scrap it.

Here's the big question; did the programming get worse, or did we just grow up and move on to different things? Because what's cool when we're 13 isn't necessarily cool when we're 23.

The programming got worse. The way the shows are filmed (went from "As it happens/like you could film it" to "over produced/stuff flying all over the screen" and language used and so on changed. Went from older people in shows to kids, same with wrestling crowds, "we need young good looking people",

I've been reading a lot of "The Death of WCW". On page 206, it talks about how WCW was going to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta for the July 5, 1999 "Nitro". WCW blamed the fact that they drew about half of what they were drawing a year earlier, on the Holiday weekend. By blaming outside forces like the weather or a Holiday, you're refusing to accept that theory that maybe people don't give a crap about your product anymore. MTV right now, is like that by continuing to push pseudo reality shows in the face of declining ratings.

Needs: Tom Green Bam Margera Three Six Mafia Daria Syndicated episodes of Degrassi
Honestly, if they wanted to keep their Hills viewers tuned in it'd be smart to show something that targets the same demographic afterwards. They usually show some recap show of The Hills and then some random show like Next that has been replayed 8593084939202 times.

Philius and Ferb and The Replacements. The former being a high rated, award nominated show. Here's the thing about that, don't get Disney Channel mixed up with MTV. MTV aren't getting ratings for their shows, Disney are. That's the difference.

Well MTV, I get you need to get a hint. If you calling yourself Music TV then how about having shows that IS about MUSIC. but nope, unless it 3AM, we won't see Music related stuff. When we do it would be about Kayne West, Justin Timberlake, and the Jonas Brothers. MTV I agree should be RTV these days. Music is not on there deal anymore. Well Disney always seem to find something that hits there markets. The ones you named are what Currently hitting. Before that was that Lizzy Mcquire. That so Raven been on for quiet a while. The thing is unlike MTV shows. They find something that become big money. HSM and Hannah Montana drew insane amount money. Just look at the Hannah Montana tour they did. That was insane how those tickets went for that and what people did to get one. You can't walk in any Toy store or place that sells Toys without seeing there stuff. Disney always been good at get some kind of hit. All the way back to Mickie Mouse.

I guess the main point that I'm trying to get across concerning the Disney Channel is that like MTV, they seemed to have forgotten their roots in recent years. The Disney Channel used to be a general audiences station, instead of essentially, their version of Nickelodeon (i.e. "strictly for kids"). Now, it seems like the only time that we see Mickey Mouse is his silhouette for the channel's logo.
