And for you folks across the pond, you may be familiar with this one. "Threads" - a 1984 docudrama from the BBC about Sheffield and it's subsequent destruction from nuclear weapons during a full-scale war between the US and USSR, and the decline of civilied society before and after the attack. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThreadsThe film's on Youtube: - Part 1, and follow the links to the next 12 parts I thought that The Day After was pretty depressing (considering both the topic matter and that Steve Guttenberg had a good outing in a somewhat dramatic role and practically no one remembers it), but this film......wow, my day was ruined after seeing this.

Just reading that I found morbidly depressing, there ain't no way I'm going to watch it. I bet that scared the absolute bejesus out of people at the time it aired.

Just the fact it's set in Sheffield makes it depressing But yeah I sat and watched this in school... it's absolutely amazing yet depressing and it would have scared the crap out of people in 84...

We're the masters of depressing television over here. I wouldn't be suprised if we had the largest suicide rates of any country.

I had to sit through Threads and They Day After when I was younger. They were both somewhat depressing.

Apparently, my friends at shool keep telling me, Norway has the highest percentage of suicides compared to number of inhabitants. Norway is both irreligious and a welfare state. Most people find purpose in either work or church, after all, and when you factor in how fricken cold it is, that suicide rates are higher doesn't surprise me. Now, also remember that Scandanavia's only major cultural contribution (besides Delaware and the Scream) is German Mythology, which is by far the most depressing kind ever written, as it tells of a world where it's purpose is preparing for a massive battle in which all gods and humans are killed by monsters, giants and the dead before the world freezes over again. So they are a morose and grimm people.

The movie while creative seems highly illogical. Most of the aftermath they created is far fetched.

I know that's common in docudramas but it just seemed like they were dropping nukes on animals trapped in a cage and then gave all of them testosterone injections.

You want a grim documentary that will punch you in the gut and make you feel like an inept, useless asshole for ever even WATCHING it?
Watch SHARKWATER. The graphic at the end, which tells you just how many sharks were exterminated due to the illegal practice of finning, WHILE YOU SAT THERE ON YOUR FAT ARSE watching a movie, is staggering. As a shark lover, it broke my heart.

God that was depressing. The very end is disturbing. THe scary part is seeing in the beginnning how Russia and the US are arguing over, you guessed it, Iran!

I watched an HBO documentary a while back on mistreated dogs that were taken to shelters. It's the last time I've cried.
