.... is on ESPN Classic right now. It's an opening day game, and I am marking out big time. The broadcasters are getting me so pumped up with their machine gun-paced, spot on baseball knowledge. This has a definite old school feel to it, not to mention that Kansas City is my favorite team in all of sports, and this was an era where they were really, really good. It's great to hear the announcers putting over the league and the players in this particular game rather than the Yanks/BoSox-worship that plague the network today. Not to mention, these announcers actually come across as *loving* their job, unlike the egomaniacal jerks they have now who just phone it in from game to game.
This game is good representation of the reason baseball was always my favorite sport. Ironically, the same network giving me this obscure game tonight is one of the big perps who helped kill the game for me.

It's the 1990 season opener. Bret Saberhagen is on the mound. Sweet. Remember how he would always alternate bad year/Cy Young contender year ?

A baseball game? On ESPN Classic? And it's neither the Red Sox nor the Yankees?
What's the occasion?

And in this--an even-numbered year season opener--he's just given up a 3-run homer in the 2nd inning! And for anybody who cares, Bo Jackson is in this game, of course, being a man among boys.

A baseball game? On ESPN Classic? And it's neither the Red Sox nor the Yankees? What's the occasion? ESPN Classic is basically responding to the launch of the MLB Network. When was the last time that ESPN Classic actually committed to airing remotely classic stuff (rodeo, poker, "American Gladiators", and "Stump the Schwab" with standing)?

Are you trying to say that American Gladiators isn't classic?
