I'm talking about the first game. I like it so far even though I'm not very far. The atmosphere's pretty cool, there are some surprises (f'n dogs jumping through the window). Now my problem is, there's almost no ammo clip in this game, so I often wind up having only my knife to fight the zombies. And the thing is, to stab the zombies, I have to come close enough to them to hit them. BUT, when I come close to them, I get bitten, not to mention it takes forever to kill a zombie with a knife. So, does anyone her have a good technique to stab the zombies without getting myself hit?

The best technique is stick and move. Swing, then run away, swing, then run away, etc.
Truth is the knife is only useful in Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil 4. Why? Cause those are the only games the knife actually works. In the REmake, the knife does almost NOTHING.
Truth is, it is best not to shoot zombies you don't need to. If you can move around the zombies, do that instead. Only two Resident Evil games have enough ammo in the game allowing you to kill every enemy in the game. And those are Resident Evil 0(for example, when I played it on easy, I had over 200 rounds of handgun ammo before I even finished the level on the Ecliptic Express) and Resident Evil 4(cause, aside from a few optional fights and parts where enemies won't stop coming, you actually have to kill every enemy in the game).
Save your handgun ammo for the zombies you HAVE to shoot and enemies such as the Cerberus(zombie dogs). Save the shotgun ammo for the Cerberus, spiders, and bosses. Save the grenade launcher ammo for bosses, hunters, and spiders. Save the magnum ammo for hunters and bosses ONLY.
Remember you have to conserve ammo.
Oh, and depends on which version of Resident Evil you are playing. If you are playing the PS1 version, save ammo and do as I said. If the DS version(Resident Evil: Deadly Silence), there actually is a lot more ammo(like 30% more) and the knife is a shoulder button weapon like in RE4. If you are playing the REmake, SAVE YOUR AMMO!!!! This game is the hardest console RE game in the series for a reason. The enemies take more hits and you have less ammo than any other version of Resident Evil. Also, if it is the REmake, don't try and kill the zombies. Use your defensive items(daggers for Jill, flash grenades for Chris) on zombies. If you knock a zombie down, you have to burn the body or else the zombie will become the highly deadly and much stronger Crimson Head(the mutation stage between a zombie and a Licker. Lickers are the final mutation of zombies).

Yep, I did figure out it was best to run around the enemies whenever I can (but of course, I did not come p with that BEFORE emptying my last magazine, stupid me). And thanks for all the infos, Koda! Oh and, for the info, it's the original RE1 on the PlayStation.

Oh and, for the info, it's the original RE1 on the PlayStation. Ok. Oh, and who are you playing as? Jill or Chris? Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Jill gets to carry 8 items at once, is skilled in chesmitry and thus can mix chemicals(helpful for eliminating Plant-42, a boss in the game Jill can avoid by using a chemical mixture called V-Jolt on its roots, killing it), and as Barry gives her the lock pick(as she's the master of unlocking), she can open every door that doesn't need a special key. Chris can carry 6 items at once, but can take a LOT more damage, he sucks at chemistry and thusly needs Rebecca Chambers, the last surviving member of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team, to mix chemicals for him, and since he lacks lock picking skills he needs to find "Old Keys" to open most of the doors in the game. Also, Jill is faster than Chris. Because of all the advantages Jill has over Chris, most people prefer to use her and most veterans suggest Jill to new players of Resident Evil. These same things carry over to the REmake, except Chris has one huge advantage over Jill, his special item is his lighter, meaning he can burn zombies and not have the lighter & kerosene fluid fill two slots of his short inventory(Jill has to carry both in her inventory). As for some of the enemies you'll run into, the Hunter, as I've mentioned in the previous post, are large lizard/human hybrids. They are fast as hell, and take a lot of damage(thus why the magnum is needed to down these guys). They also deal out a lot of damage and can do a move that decapitates you(if your EKG reading is in Danger). Also, you'll run into sharks, Chimera(weird insect/human hybrids), HUGE ass spiders, wasps, crows, Cerberus, zombies, snakes, and that's it for the basic enemies. The bosses are Plant-42(giant plant), Black Tiger(huge ass spider, bigger than the others), Neptune(huge shark), Tyrant-002(final boss), Halbert(huge wasp), and Yawn(huge ass snake). I highly suggest saving before each boss fight.

But I don't even remember being given the opportunity to choose (though it's been a while since I last played it, so maybe I forgot). You also forgot to mention that Jill makes wicked sandwiches.
