i love stories like these. i don't see why people are getting so pissed off. you're argument is "why change it, it's only a word", but if it's only a word then why does it matter what they call it. if one parent called in and complained because the word "school" was offensive or whatever the hell their point was, then at least you've chilled them out. political correctness in this form doesn't hurt anybody, but it did make some weirdo feel less offended when taking their kids to sch-i mean learning, which is a positive thing in my book. The issue is not the word itself. It's what lies BEHIND the change of the word and the reasons that brought to changing the word... "School" was probably perceived as authoritarian and "fascist". A place where the poor kids are forced to sit through hours of boring classes, being subdued by evil teachers, and saddled with tons of reading/writing that prevents them from expressing themselves. Not to mention the horror of grades, fails and flunkings. So, by getting rid of the very word "school", it will be easier transitioning to a more student-friendly place, where the whole concept of skills+effort --> results gets flushed down the drain. I've seen this happening already... First step was creating dozens of futile classes/courses/curricula, making them fashionable, while the classic subjects got the shaft and were left behind. Then all that easy/fancy stuff was dumbed down in order to make pretty much every moron with half a brain able to make it through. The few who still had problems weren't flunking anymore, but were allowed to the next class with a "learning debt" they were supposed to recuperate. Of course that's just a formality, nobody does, nobody checks. And to top it all, the same system goes now for grade school. Kids play, have crosswords instead of little essays, they do theater projects, photo labs etc. And they can't write/speak correctly to save their life. But the main thing is they aren't "afraid" of teachers and school enymore Sure, it's not as intimidating as it was 15-20-50 years ago, but there's a reason if younger people are more "ignorant" despite having a higher level of education than their parents...

Was "Mental Assimilation Facility" also a bit too harsh for these nitwits?

I don't really understand their reasoning behind it but if that's what they want to do,so be it. As long as they are still teaching the kids, that is all that matters.

Reminds me of JR replacing "hospital" with "medical facility".

This has gotta be the most blatant example of pussy, soft-minded, weak-willed, useless and unnecessary PC bullexcretory matter I have ever heard of. snork off with your euphemistic wankery, it's called a goddamn school and there's nothing wrong with it. What this man said.

they will snap and kill someone. And then they'll be made into an internet meme, and 50% of the people will think "Wow, that guy was a badass!" Unfortunately.

Is it me or does "Learning Facility" sound alot worse than school? If someone told me they worked at learning facility I'd take it to be either some type of criminal rehab centre or a mental institute.

They forget that school is supposed to prepare kids for adult life, I'm not this will help them when they start at helping in return for monetary reward centres.

They forget that school is supposed to prepare kids for adult life, I'm not this will help them when they start at helping in return for monetary reward centres. Well, your joke underscores the fact that adult life is more or less the exchange of service for money. This sad fact is a result of the change in education from learning to creating little money generators that grow up to be big money generators. I'm doing a thesis right now and I teaching assist undergraduate students and so many of them take a course to get the credit so it shows up on their piece of paper so they can get a great job, live large with a big house, the five cars, and the rent charged. What happened to the actual "learning" of school? The whole cirricula of education across the world needs to change before we get any smarter. Ironically, the etymology of the word "school" comes from the Greek "leisure" or "that in which leisure is employed," according to Wikipedia (a double irony!).

But seriously, I don't attend the place, and I know not one person personally who does, so really, why the f*** should I care and complain about it?

I really think they should stop using the word "school" in place of the more politically correct phrase "institute of child belittlement, negative self-esteem inducing, and exclusion of the slightly different."

Just to play devils adovcate, but what you guys think of "Public High School," is "'Learning Center' where inner city youths bully and harass me to no end, in fact it's so bad, that next year, I've got to go to Community College to finish my high school education. Not that changing what it's called will help though. It would probably make it worse. I think that Schooling past 8th grade should be optional, that way kids like me, who want to learn, can learn in peace.
