Via his blog, Murray Chass reports that Mark Teixeira didn't sign with the Red Sox because "he just didn't want to go to Boston." According to Chass: "He and his wife, especially his wife, didn't want to live in Boston. If necessary, they were going to choose the big bad city of New York, and they did." The baseball equivalent of "NEWZ". The main issue was money. Of all the competitive teams that offered Teixeira a contract, New York's was the largest. If Boston had outbid the Yankees, I guarantee you he would've ended up a member of the Red Sox. Definitely Newz. It's not like players live in the inner city when they play in New York. Most of them live in the suburbs in New Jersey or in Westchester, north of the city. Even if there's an inkling of truth to that, I bet his wife wouldn't have a problem with New York City on her way to Bloomies and Bergdorf. Just a story to heighten the NY-Boston rivalry.

Blue Jays sign Michael Barrett to a minor league deal. Cool by me. So much for being "done", eh Riccardi? Another foot-in-mouth moment by our fine GM.

Another Buster Olney special. Maybe in Olney's world, all the mistakes he's reported happened. So in this case, the Mets don't have a CF after losing out to the Yanks for Beltran.

According to SI.com, the Red Sox made a play for Hanley Ramirez after losing out on Mark Teixeira, but weren't able to get very far in talks with the Marlins.

Also, that Tex thing is insane. It just got even tougher for fans to get seats in Yankee stadium. Unreal.

Well,if the Red Sox wanted him, they never should've traded him to begin with. Sorry. That's the answer my friends always give me when I say the Tigers should try to get John Smoltz back.

Also, that Tex thing is insane. It just got even tougher for fans to get seats in Yankee stadium. Unreal. Extra perks aren't something new for top players. A-rod gets the same deal, but for 4 Legends Suite or comparable season tickets. Pretty much the same for Pujols. Soriano gets 6 premium tickets for each home game (spring training - post-season) and All Star Game (if he's selected). And hell, look at Matsuzakas perks: physical therapist, massage therapist, interpreter, 8 first-class round-trip airline tickets per year between Boston & Japan, spring training housing allowance of up to $25,000, Boston housing allowance of up to $75,000, one-time moving allowance of up to $35,000, use of Lincoln Town Car or similar car, Red Sox player ticket package, including 2 field box seats, team employee to assist Japanese media, uniform No. 18 plus he has a clause saying he can't be sent down to the minors. Hows that for insane? Source: mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/

According to SI.com, the Red Sox made a play for Hanley Ramirez after losing out on Mark Teixeira, but weren't able to get very far in talks with the Marlins. Teams were falling all over themselves last July trying to pick this guy up - until they were told about the following: Florida wanted 2 starting pitchers (that can play now), a respectable starting SS to take Hanley's place, a starting OF (I forgot why) and a couple of prospects. The Cubs were one team that was interested until that little stipulation reared its head. By the way, the MLB Network has a "Channel Locator" on its site, to see if you will be among one of the millions who will get to see its debut on January 1st. Click on the link at the website, and type your zip code. It will tell you either where to find it or how you can request it.

The Red Sox got Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell in that trade. Even though they wanted to get rid of Lowell, if they landed Teixeira, that was still a great trade for Boston.

I still can't get over the fact that the Fish want to get rid of Hanley already. He's still cheap and one of the top Shortstops in the league.
The Marlins really should be contracted if they can't get the stadium deal.

According to SI.com, the Red Sox made a play for Hanley Ramirez after losing out on Mark Teixeira, but weren't able to get very far in talks with the Marlins. According to MLBTraderumors.com they talked about Ellsbury and Buchholz but they never got any real serious discussions going. Ramirez is signed through 2014 so the Marlins are going to want a lot for him.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are at a "stalemate" with Manny Ramirez and are "exploring whether Bobby Abreu or Adam Dunn could replace" him in left field.
