Obviously when you buy a song off iTunes, you can't burn it to a CD. Is there any way around this? I mean, I know once you've paid for a song you can download it somewhere else and because you've paid for it, it's not illegal but I don't use any download programs. Any help?

You can indeed burn a song from iTunes onto a cd.
Create a playlist of the songs you want, insert a cd and click on burn disc at the bottom of iTunes.

Not a purchased song man, it kept saying "songs need to mp3 format". But this was on an MP3 disc, I'll try an audio disc.
EDIT - It works on an audio disc, thanks man!

Yes it will work with a audio disc (CDR). It should make so it works in any CD Player when finished.

Amidst all this excitement the song I most wanted on the CD (Coldplay - Life in Technicolour ii) has been left out. Doh!

Yeah, you can tell Apple was on the "Yeah, we had to install DRM to get people to sign on to this, but we really don't care that mutch" train when it designed iTunes.
