So far, every one who has attempted to cash in Money In The Bank has won their title match. RVD, CM Punk, Edge on two occasions- all became world champions. Not everyone who has won the MITB match has won a title (Kennedy), but no one's ever really blown their chance.
So should that streak end, and someone lose the cash-in match? Or would it make the wrestler in question look too weak?

I think it should eventually, I thought it was to happen this year with Punk.

It should, but when it happens it should be used to elevate someone. It needs to be in a year where someone wins it that NO ONE saw coming. Something like what they did with Hardy and Bourne at Cyber Sunday.
The guy gets a main event match and a World Title shot, takes the Champion to the limit and then some, and either gets screwed or just comes up a second short. After that, KEEP HIM IN THE MAIN MIX. If you do it the one time, then drop him back down to Earth, it will be all for nothing.

I think in order for it to work, it would have to be a heel so he'd have something to bitch about.

Otherwise it'd just be a waste of time I think both scenarios could work personally. It could work for anyone as long as it's done the way RVD cashed in. ANyone coming out after a beatdown and cashing in would be a joke if they lost. With advance warning it's perfectly fine id he lost.

I think it would severely hurt the wrestler's rep. To win the big one, take the opportunity to cash in, then LOSE? He'd be a friggin' ham sammich!

It would have to be Santino.
He seems like the only person who would be able to come out of something like that with at least a small amount of credibility intact.

I definitely think the briefcase holder (can't say MITB winner since we know that the case itself can be defended after Mania) should not always win.

It'd be career murder.
If you can't win when you have everything in your favor, you can never win.

Someone is going to have to lose eventually or the case loses it's surprise factor, IMO. There are still a lot of options that can be used with it thankfully.

I could see a desperate heel champ getting himself intentionally DQed to retain, starting a big feud with the challenger. Might be a bit risky, though.

I like the idea of using it to bring someone up to main event level without giving them the title right off the bat.
Have the MITB winner opt to cash it in on a ppv letting the opponent know in advance (a la RVD). Give the match sufficient time so that when the MITB winner ends up losing the match they are instantly elevated and able to be considered of main event quality caliber.
This way, a new wrestler is now in the main event scene adding a new threatening dimension to the mix already in place. Works well for all involved. Also, have the loser be given a nod of respect post match a la Matt Hardy to Evan Bourne.

The only way I would be able to accept this is if they went the route RVD and announced a match, and they went 50-50 with the champ, earning respect and maybe another shot.
If it is the "genius" route a lot of guys seem to think it would be, and have someone like Santino run into Cena, get powerslammed and lose, that would bury everyone involved, and the MitB match might as well be replaced with a Bag of Piss on a Pole match, for all it'd be worth.
