I've been watching old RR's on DVD. (Gotta love Netflix). Anyway, there have been some rumbles where the winner had a lot of close calls along the way. Like when Shawn Michaels went over the top rope but managed to keep one for in the air, then got back in the ring and eliminated Davey Boy Smith.
So I got to wondering, has there ever been a Rumble when the guy who was supposed to win accidently got elminated?

The Rock's feet touched the floor in 2000, if that counts. They worked it into the storyline.

I'm more curious about accidental eliminations. I don't have anything offhand, but what if (for example) Bushwhacker Luke had Rick Martel on the ropes (an oft-used Rumble spot) and Martel accidentally fell on to the floor?
Obviously, Martel wasn't going to win the Rumble, but you'd imagine he'd have better showing than Bushwhacker Luke would.

I remembered when Mysterio won in 06, there are 100 things that could have gone wrong with him flipping Orton over the way he did.

I still like Savage flying over the top rope in '92 and the announcers being stuck covering for him.

I've never been sure if Mil Mascaras' elimination was planned that way or if he simply forgot the stipulations.

He did look very confused about the whole thing.

I've never been sure if Mil Mascaras' elimination was planned that way or if he simply forgot the stipulations. Hard to tell. Some of those guys (like Honky) viewed a quicker elimination as an easy paycheck and said that certain guys were "punished" by going out there for long times or else self-marks like Rick Martel. I wouldn't past someone like Mil, who wasn't in "his territory" or really sticking around anything, deciding to just take a quicker elimination in a match he wasn't gonna win, in a fed he wasn't a regular in, that worked a style he didn't completely work, in his 50's, etc. Again, could've been a mess up though. Or that CRAFTY Pat Patterson could've planned the entire thing just to confuse YOU, Madison!

Was Michaels' "elimination" in '95 really an accident? If so, I'd consider it a blessing in disguise considering it hammered in the official rule about two feet touching the floor and allowed for many spots that wouldn't be possible if one foot would eliminate someone.

I don't know, Mil Mascaras was in Battle Royals before that one.

Savage owns this thread in kayfabe terms... in 3 straight years none the less...
91 doesn't come out 92 jumps over the top rope to get Jake Roberts but re-enters. 93 tries to pin yoko just to get tossed.
Mistake when Rey won the Rumble you can see on camera the ref handing him a water bottle halfway through it.

In 1997, Faarooq tosses Ahmed Johnson, but Johnson comes in after being eliminated and throws out Faarooq, eliminating him as well. Piper and Bad News Brown did the same thing in 1990.

Savage in 93 is my all time favorite Royal Rumble elimination, simply because he screwed up by trying to pin him, then basically made Yokozuna look like he had the strength of a god by pretty much eliminating himself with an oversell.

"Randy Savage just jumped over the top rope, but is not eliminated as long as he does it to get a cup of Gatorade from a table."

I've never been sure if Mil Mascaras' elimination was planned that way or if he simply forgot the stipulations. Considering the way he's been portrayed by a number of Wrestlers (Mick Foley being the best example) it would not surprise me if he had told Vince that the only way he'd be in the rumble is if he eliminated himself.

I don't recall him being in many battle royals over the years, to be honest. He was good in 89, and there was a bit of the old spark in 94, but that's it. 90, where he was in a hot feud with Dusty at the time, was barely a 10 minute performance out of him (great elimination though) and it was in the early stages of the match.

Savage's 1993 Royal Rumble elimination is probably the best one ever. They need to have one like that every year!

They don't plan a whole heck of a lot out so there is less room for error.

I'd have to say the Big Boss Man in '92. He attempts a running clothesline on Flair, Flair ducks, and Boss Man very spazily eliminates himself, in a completely obvious manner.
