There are a lot of comedians who don't get enough credit for being genuinely funny.
There is a MAJOR difference between people who can be funny if they're reading funny words and people who can be funny in a vacuum. So name a comedian who you think is naturally funny and doesn't get the credit they deserve for it.
ex. Jimmy Fallon: Can be funny if his material is good enough as opposed to Phil Hartman who could be funny alone in a room. Phil Hartman though gets a LOT of credit, its due but he's generally recognized as an amazingly funny person who went before his time.
I don't think Kevin Nealon gets ANYWHERE near the credit he should for being an amazingly funny guy anywhere he goes. I haven't seen him anywhere post SNL where he didn't absolutely steal the show from whoever was in the scene with him.

I never got why Nealon gets so much flak for his term on Weekend Update. His deadpan delivery was perfect, and he never smiled inaproppriately or broke character, and that's what made him great.
As opposed to Norm McDonald's absolutely wretched term, where he would whinge for ten minutes, never make a single funny joke, laugh at himself, and yell out bad punchlines. And people have actually had the gall to refer to his style as "deadpan".
IT'S NOT DEADPAN IF YOU LAUGH THROUGH THE WHOLE SEGMENT.

Kevin Nealon hosts a show every year on TBS showing the funniest commercials worldwide, usually in December. I still want to know what was wrong with him in the last show. His mouth seemed swollen and he was slurring his speech. Edit: Here he is on Ellen not too long ago. Seems fine. Must've had some dental work I guess:

Mitch Hedberg easily. He was very underrated by mainstream entertainment. I think if he had not died though that he would be one of the biggest comics right now.
Steven Wright. Has a very similar style to Hedberg but has been doing stand up much longer. I think he hasn't gotten really big because he chooses not to. He has had bit parts in movies like the DJ on the radio in Resivoir Dogs but never really a starring role.

Gabriel Iglesias Kevin James actually does really good stand up. I think the only thing holding Iglesias back is his weight. If it wasn't for that I think he'd be one of the top comics above Mencia and have movie deals.

I don't think he was underrated, but I think overlooked was the perfect word for the guy. The people who had seen him pretty much thought he was hilarious, but there were tons and tons of people who didn't know who he was until after he died (and there's still plenty that don't). I think he became a bigger deal after he died as I have seen him mentioned more. But he was still thought of extremely highly before that.

Adam Ferrera. His old stand up special on comedy central is one of my all time favorites. But he seems forever destined to play the two minutes of screen minute friend for all of his more famous buddies in their movies.

He was a costar on the short lived Denis Leary series THE JOB which I thought would have helped get him noticed. I don't think Hedgeburg is overlooked. His second CD came with a DVD that was pretty cool (had a PREMIUM BLEND appearance, the version of CCP that aired and the extended version of said special. That's a lot for someone that is considered 'underrated')

Omid Djalili, who has a video posted a few posts up, is definetly at the top of my list. As is Dan Cummins, a guy who has pretty much ONLY had the one Comedy Central Presents: Special, but really knocked it out of the park. Hopefully, both guys become much bigger.

Hell yea Dan Cummins, saw his special the other day and it was possibly the funniest one I have yet to see.

I agree with Stephen Lynch. I saw him open up for Mitch Hedberg and he had me in stitches. I went to see Jeff Dunham last fall and he had me laughing all night long. Sure, he's a ventriloquist, but he's funny as hell.

I agree with Stephen Lynch. I saw him open up for Mitch Hedberg and he had me in stitches. I recently found out Stephen Lynch was nominated for a Tony for THE WEDDING SINGER:A BROADWAY ADAPTATION OF AN ADAM SANDLER FILM (I made the subtitle up, but seriously, I thought HAPPY GILMORE would be the one to get that treatment).

I don't know if he's completely overlooked, but I don't hear nearly enough outside of the internet about Zach Galifinakis.
