On to Round 9 ....
In the event of a tie both will carry on to the next day to meet some other challenger. I will try and vary the sources from comics to TV show characters.
I'm also going to add a bit of story to this to make it interesting, it's still a favorite poll but it's going to have continuity!
I will happily take requests for future opponents. But in the meantime we have to continue the story ...
--------------------------------------
Last time we were here, we left Nick Fury in the Victorian era with Harry leland of the Hellfire CLub looking to take him in.
Leland begins to apply his power making Fury drop to his knees, in one final bid for freedom Fury manages to fire a shot from his pistol which hits Leland in the knee. Leland collapses giving Fury the chance to escape.
Nick Fury darts down a sidestreet dodging a horse and cart. He passes some shops and tries to make contact with Black Widow.
"This is Fury, Black Widow are you there? .... Damn nothing but static."
As fury tries to assess the situation he sees an odd looking man in the distance. He carefully approaches before calling out his pistol ready.
"Hey You!"
The man turns, revealing himself to not be only a man in shape and more of a merman.
"Yes? my name is Abe Sapien can I help you?"
Would Nick Fury like Abe Sapien's help?
Nick Fury
Colonel Nicholas Joseph "Nick" Fury is a fictional World War II army hero and present-day super-spy in the Marvel Comics universe. Fury first appeared in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos a combat series that portrayed the cigar-chomping Fury as leader of an elite U.S. Army unit. The character now makes frequent appearances in Marvel comic books as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. and as an intermediary between the U.S. government or the United Nations and various superheroes. It is eventually revealed that Fury takes a special medication called the Infinity Formula that halted his aging and allows him to be active despite being chronologically nearly a century old. Recently Nick Fury launched a covert assault on the leadership of Latveria, who were plotting a massive attack on America, using a small team of heroes consisting of Captain America, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Wolverine, Daredevil and the Black Widow. One year after the assault, the Latverian forces launched a counter-attack, which resulted in Luke Cage being hospitalized, Fury's friendship with Captain America became strained, and Fury was removed as S.H.I.E.L.D. commander and forced into hiding, with numerous international warrants out for his arrest. He will return to help in the upcoming secret invasion of the Skrulls. His abilites include halted aging from the Infinity Formula, skilled and experienced soldier with many weapons and fighting techniques.
vs
Abe Sapien
Sapien was formerly Langdon Everett Caul, a powerful businessman involved with a strange cult during the Victorian era. After retrieving a strange jellyfish-like deity from an underwater ruin, Caul and other gentlemen perform an arcane ritual that ends with the creature's release and Caul being turned into an icthyo sapien. The men in the room then place the icthyo sapien's body in a tube of water, which was found a century later in the basement of a Washington, D.C. hospital. With no memory of his life before, the icthyo sapien received a new name from a piece of paper attached to the tube, dated the day of Abraham Lincoln's assassination (April 14, 1865). Sapien was brought to the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) for research after being discovered, and was saved by an empathetic Hellboy from curious BPRD scientists who wanted to dissect Abe to advance their research. Abe Sapien is an amphibian who can survive underwater, an excellent gun marksman, and a formidable hand-to-hand combatant. He has extremely high intelligence and in film roles is adept at telepathy and psychometry.
