I think we can't forget that there are "Best of" DVD sets (Stone Cold, Rock, HHH, Edge...) and "The Story of" DVD sets (HBK, Flair's second set, Beniot, etc...)
I think it's ok to have a preferrence of the two... but comparing them to each other is apple's to oranges...
Saying "I like the HBK set better than the EDGE set because it has a documentary" is like saying "I like pizza hut better than subway because their pizza is better."
They are two completely different types of sets... you can bet your ass HHH will have a documentary dvd set before it's all said and done... then we'll have two good sets.... one best of, one doc.
I love the Best of sets that they are putting out.... they'll go very well with the documentaries when they also come out... and they will. Take HBK's Vault dvd and Story dvd... great sets of HBK. Same with Hogan... though his "Still Running Wild" dvd doesn't have a long doc... it's a great complentary to his Anthology.

I hate the DVD style of having them talk for like a minute, then a full match, come back, talk for about a minute, then a full match, that they've been doing lately. I prefer the 1 to 2 hour documentary, and then the matches on a second (or third) disc. I don't like it all together like that. I feel the same way. That's why I didn't buy Eddie's new one, HHH's newer one, and the Edge one in question here. At least with the ones I own (Brian Pillman, Road Warriors, Mr. Perfect, Benoit, 4 Horsemen, Jake Roberts, Billy Graham, etc.) there is a decent documentary.

I wonder why do an Edge DVD now. As MGH said, the guy is in the prime of his career. I'd rather wait until his career is over and we get an ultimate Edge collection of some kind. Same goes for Michaels, Mysterio, Cena et al. erm, because he IS in the prime of his career, and more people will buy a dvd of him whilst he is hot than a few years down the line after hes retired. Personally i prefer the match only DVDs, just my preference

Personally i prefer the match only DVDs, just my preference I'd prefer it to be a retrospective rather then do a DVD now and then have nothing for when the guy retires when he's probably had a damn good collection of matches of fall back on. And they basically can't do it when he retires properly because they've already done an Edge DVD. It was like the two Flair DVDs. What's the point of doing a 2nd one when the first one was good enough? Just release one big collection after Ric Flair retired and sell it HUGE.

I prefer the documentary style DVD as well. Keep in mind, Edge did release a book a few years ago that detailed his whole career up to 2003, so we do have SOMETHING that covers his career. Granted, its not the same.
I really enjoyed the DVD, had a lot of great matches and ones that I never realized how great they were (i.e. vs. Cena from Summerslam 2006). However, it really shows that Edge took a HUGE decline with in-ring match quality. Granted, the matches were still great based on the promos and the atmosphere created but there's a huge difference even between 2004 Edge and 2001/2002 Edge. Might have something to do with his neck injury but its really noticeable.
I hope that doesn't make me sound like someone who dislikes current Edge because that would be incorrect. He's possibly my favorite in ring performer in WWE right now. I just find that his best matches since getting the neck injury have been matches with stipulations (TLC, Hell in a Cell, Hardcore) and not like the stellar matches with Angle, the tag matches with Mysterio and his brief feud with Guerrero in 2002.
Overall, I liked it but I would prefer something like what Flair had this year. A doc and two disc's of bonus matches. However, I wouldn't see the point in a second collection released in the future with a doc on it as well if they had already covered it before..

I have to agree (though to be fair, austin did have the stone cold truth documentary), especially with Rock. One of the biggest superstars in wrestling ever and no documentary? Even if they couldnt get rock to participate, the dvds on dead wrestlers prove that the subject doesnt need to be there to make a good one.

It was like the two Flair DVDs. What's the point of doing a 2nd one when the first one was good enough? Just release one big collection after Ric Flair retired and sell it HUGE. Well, the first DVD is very much a collection of matches with the exception of the Confidential skits. The second DVD actually has the documentary.

Same goes for Michaels, Mysterio, Cena et al. Sometimes Best Buy and others will offer DVDs that are either rumored to be released or sometimes just have no information period. I guess if they get a good response on preorder attempts and the like, WWE can see that and decide to go for it. As usual if they feel it's worth selling, they'll sell it. They can always do another one later.

They've been releasing these Mish-mosh DVD's way too frequently, although with Austin and Eddie they already released documentary DVD's.
Though HHH's was released back in '01 and Mysterio's in '03.
Really they need to release more documentaries, WWE could do some great ones for Kane, Taker, Edge, Big SHow, Rock, Jericho, JBL..

In your opinion - a hell of a lot of people will be put off buying a (say) 4 DVD set, than buying two double DVD sets a couple of years apart.. A company the size of WWE does it's market research on these things, and if the big DVD was worth putting out, they'd put it out.

I just think, for me, doing these DVDs now for guys in their prime will make further DVDs less interesting because we've seen it all before and it won't have the matches I really want on it.

I didn't buy the Hardyz one, but I'm not going to get anymore of these mediocre dvd's anymore. I thought that the Hardy one was pretty good. Shame that Edge could do a straight commentary for that DVD but was in-character for his own.
