Hey, I know Russo returned to WWE in July 2002, but then left quite quickly after that. Does anyone know what happened?

I heard that a lot of wrestlers raised hell about it, thus he was fired pretty quickly.

He worked Vince McMahon to buy out his Turner guarantee so he could work elsewhere. Vinnie Mac bought out his contract, Vince Russo came back and bawwwed when none of his deliberately crap ideas weren't used and asked for his release. He made a bundle and got to work somewhere where he had free reign again like in WCW. Only this time it was TNA

I have heard he was the first to pitch bringing in Eric Bischoff, but I think he was thinking of bringing him in with Scott Steiner and possibly other WCW wrestlers as a faction. They did end up bringing in Bischoff and Steiner (and Goldberg).

Was that the one where the website announced he was being brought back as head writer, only to change it the very next day to special consultant and then Vinnie Ru left.

I've read that guys like HHH and Bradshaw were really against the re-hiring of Russo, may have played a large part in why he was canned again.

I thought it was the creative team who baulked at the idea

Didn't he raise some sort of idea about turning The Rock into a gay character? I'm sure I remember reading about that.

Hogan also made a big deal about it.

I have the Russo/Ferrera shoot and basically Russo said that the reason he left was that he didn't like having a creative team as opposed to a having 1-2 head writers like it was back in the Attitude Era. He also didn't like not being the head writer (that was Stephanie) and he felt that he couldn't work in that environment

I think OWW had a blurb on it. The workers and bookers hated it, but what Vince didn't like was the idea to restart the invasion with everyone they didn't get the first time. Vince let him go. It's belived it was a ploy to get out of his Turner contract, so he could go work for NWA-TNA. Of course, why he just didn't accept the 50% buyout, the world will never know.

Vince probably paid out the full contract

You know, while the guy has had tons of stupid ideas, he also had his share of good ones. The Brood and Val Venis kicked ass, afterall.
