Actually it was over with the crowds, and me. Austin was generally the highlight of my monday night during those dark times, and if I remember correctly he got the biggest pops of the night nearly everytime he came out, regardless of what he did. I'm also a big Austin fan so this whole thing is pretty biased. Everyone around here complained about the sheriff angle, I loved it, just for the fact it gave Austin a reason to show up every Monday night.

I wasn't here then but...
People hated the Austin Sheriff gimmick?
Why? Him coming out for five minutes was better than anything they had on that show. And he still would be.
I don't understand.

I just have hated Austin and whatever gimmick he's had since around 1998.
Sure it's all still over with the fans in the crowd, but to me the schtick was one dimensional and ceased to be entertaining 7 years ago.
I mean, Hogan's stuff is tired too... and he gets pops. The fans pop for the familiar/nostalgia inducing faces.

I kinda liked the sheriff Austin thing but then again i couldnt stand it. I liked seeing Austin around but he kept interupting things that I actually wanted to see without reason.

I liked Austin as the co- gm (pre-Survivor Series 2003) but when they brought him back and slapped a plastic toy badge on him that was it for me. That and HHH's infamous promo made Austin's whole sheriff gimmick look like a joke.
If they really wanted it to work well they wouldn't have done such silly things like putting a toy badge on one of their top faces of all time like that. The way they handled the whole thing was just dumb.

I really never got the whole Sheriff gimic. As a sheriff what was his role suppose to be?
To be honest, it was kinda of boring I just wished they could of come up with something more creative for him.
BTW, what was HHH promo about?

God rest his soul, but I wish Owen knew how to do a damn piledriver so Austin could still be the top face WRESTLING on Raw.
