Its' clear WWE tried to capitalize by realizing the gimmick WORKED in the NWA. Baring the fact the Blade Runners became Sting and Warrior I seriously doubt you would know who the ehll they were. WWE tried to make there own "Road Warriors" It's a rip off. Watching wrestling at the time I then even saw it was a rip off. I said Blade Runners as sort of a joke at Sting and Hellwigs expense.......some people are too touchy.

i just evened it to 49% each way. and i did it going for...... demolition (ax*smash). as a kid i couldnt get behind road warriors for 1 reason; they were bad ass bikers, but since they were face's they never acted very mean, except for snarling. admitadlly demolition werent much better, but at they played up being evil. not as evil as kaientai, but thats another topic....

Simple. Road Warriors were big "wrestling" stars prior to the creation of Demolition. Demolition won ALL of it's 3 tag team titles in 1989! One year is the total summation of everything Demolition accomplished. Road Warriors won 3 WWF/NWA Tag team titles in a decade. Oddly enough Demolition was created and won there 1st tag title WHILE Road Warriors were already tag champions. Demolition won and lost teh title 2 more times until being wiped off WWE TV when Vince signed the Road Warriors around 90-91. Demoltion was visibly WWF's attempt at counter acting the Road Warriors in the NWA. Then WWE sign the Raod Warriors and there was no need for a bunch of face painted S&Mers who couldn't do 1/2 of what LOD could do. Actually Demolition won their first titles @ WMIV march 88, their second in October 89 and the third @wmvi may 90 and lost them summerslam 90. Last PPV show: WMVII. It's a good two years of main-eventing in the tag team scene. Sure Road Warriors came first, but it's not always "first come first served". I've never watched NWA (not broadcasted here), so when I first saw Demolition, I didn't know the "measuring stick" [(c) Triple H] for power and paint tag teams was Road Warriors. And btw, why do we have to dismiss someone just because he's a rip-off??? A gimmick can be "recycled" and improved and eventually go as over as its original. What's the matter with it?

A gimmick can be "recycled" and improved and eventually go as over as its original. What's the matter with it? Demolition was around for a few years. In terms of great Tag Teams Demolition really doesn't hold a candle to LOD. When I think of great tag teams I think of teams like The Rock and Roll Express and The Road Warriors, not Demolition. I understand people like Demolition because some of you grew up with them. You have to put that aside and take a step back. The Road Warriors are one of the greatest tag teams in professional wrestling history. Outliving nearly EVERY team from that era. I guess this is just really a WWE oriented board. To say Demolition is better than the Road Warriors is like saying the Nation of Domination is a better stable than the Four Horsemen.

and what exactly was so great about the road warriors? the didn't know any wrestling moves either except for the doomsday device. all the little kids just liked them because they looked cool. and demolition never came back 15 years passed their prime and were named Demolition 2000 with gay space helmets. Demolition wins. Now that is a post! ;D Demolition every time over the Road warriors. Over rated is the word for them. Both tag teams were awful in the ring really, I just thought Demolition were much cooler, better music and Mr Fuji is better than Paul Ellering. Bring back Demolition

Nah, because the poll isn't about influential or greatest tag teams,or even the better of the tag teams. it's "who do you prefer".. in that sense who u like is all that matters.

And if you'd rather see a bunch of kicking and punching as opposed to the original bad boys do power moves and double teaming left and right..then..well.. YOU RULEZ!!!$$!LOL!!$

Even though it's a small margin, I still can't believe the kicking and punching machine are winning this thing.
Crush was the only good one of the 3 Demolition guys and that's because he had that neato tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.

Well I voted for Ax & Smash because I liked them better.I don't care who was first or who was around longer & who won what titles in which region/federations,I just plain prefer Demolition to L.O.D.

Few tidbits here (I told myself I was retired from talking about this topic a few months back). 1) Lots of people regard Ric Flair as one of - if not the greatest wrestler of all-time - yet he is one of the greatest gimmick infrigers of all-time, right down to the name even. So what, to me he's the greatest singles wrestler ever, and I would rather watch him than the original Nature Boy, Buddy Rogers. 2) People talk about originality, but Demolition isn't the one with two - count 'em, TWO - names lifted from the entertainment world. I can live with them stealing from Mel Gibson, but the freakin' Challenge Of The Superfriends?!? The Black Manta and Solomon Grundy have MAJOR grounds for a lawsuit. 3) Demolition was around for four years and three months. The Ax and Smash version for three years and eleven months. That is just as long, if not a longer span, than the Midnight Rockers or British Bulldogs. And it IS a longer time than the two/three best NWA teams of that era - the Midnight Express (either version topped much more than three years) or Tully and Arn. 4) In terms of knowledge and working, I'll put the Masked Superstar (Ax) above the LOD anyday. And Darsow was just as much as strong a power wrestler as Hawk or Animal was. Just watch him throw around Akeem and Bossman at SummerSlam 89. Heck, he was even from the Minnesota area like Hawk and Animal and was considered as a candidate for the early Ellering stable of the Legion Of Doom. I'll take the team comprised of a legend and a power guy any day. All right, I'm officially done defending my favorite team of all time.

I voted for the Road Warriors. From the first time I saw them on WTBS, I thought they were the hardest tag team ever.
A couple of points. True, Demolition did main event in the WWF for about 3 years, but the Road Warriors headlined all over the world for damn near a decade. They competed everywhere during the 1980s and early 90s, dominating and selling plenty of tickets in the process.
The second point is for the guy who commented that Demolition never came back as has-beens, therefore they are better than the Roadies. One could argue that Darsow and Eadie were already over-the-hill when Vince dug them up to create his version of the Road Warriors, since he was unable to obtain the originals. This is not a blast against Vince, of whom I am a big fan, or a shot at the WWF/E, which I grew up watching and still enjoy today. This is just a fact. It could also be suggested that Demolition ran its course and very few people wanted to see them anymore.
The fact that Hawk and Animal were still competing together at the highest level 15 years after their debut should close this argument. Other than the Sheepherders, it is hard to identify another team with that kind of longevity.

Again I could see your points if the "arguement" was about the best team, most respected team, legendary or whatnot, but the poll is who do you prefer.. hard to argue personal prefrence.. but diff'rent strokes.
