I was just thinking, I'm 27 years old, I play basketball 3 times a week, and after my softball game last week I was so stiff and sore I could hardly walk for 2 days. How the heck do these guys (wrestlers) do it? And it's not like they get much recovery time, what with house shows and the like. I realize they are supremely conditioned, follow very strict diets, and work out religously, but it seems they would need some time for R and R! I'm amazed at what these guys put themselves through.

That was a great post. They are the best athlete's in the world no doubt about that. But sadly, they're never really get the respect they deserve, like baseball, football players and so on. They have the toughest schedule of any perfermers that most of us can think about.

It's because they do it alot, all the time. Their bodies get used to it. Like when I take weeks off the gym, and come back, I get REAL sore after doing squats for example. But as the weeks progress, I do them and don't get that sore.
Besides they do take alot of rest periods during matches, and some matches are just very short. A bball game or softball game, you do for more than 1 hr.

I think the hardest thing for them is actually the travel schedule.

Before i hurt my back i was in the gym/ring for 4 or 5 hours a day 3 times a week with shows on friday and saturday nights. after awhile your body kinda gets used to the torture it takes from being in the ring. BUt i was never truly comfortable with my body during this period. I was always had a sore muscle somewhere or some kind of pain in my body.

First off, great thread. Kudos Outlaw.
The hardest thing to do as a wrestling fan is to convince the non-believers just how great of athletes wrestlers are. Not only do they kill their bodies, but they have to be great actors too. The travel (some 300 days a year), the bumps, promotional spots, autographs, photos, etc. Absolutley amazing.
The big differance is the attitude. The only guy I met who was an a-hole was HHH. Way back in the DX days. Other than that, every single wrestler Ive seen at the airport I work at, or out after shows, have been great to everybody.
I live two doors down from Ben Rothlisberger (PIT Steelers QB) and he acts like hes the friggin pope. He pays his neighbor so the pizza guy delivers there instead of his house. He NEVER stops to say hi to my kids, who adore him. Just an all around a-hole. And he only works 16-20 days a year.

Don't undermine the football players because they only have 20 games in a season, they spend most of their weeks and many long summers training before the next season, and every week is practicing and reviewing tape. These peopel are pro athletes for a reason, because they work hard.
That being said, wrestlers aren't getting the cred they deserve.
