Michael Madsen turned down 'Pulp Fiction' do to 'Tombstone' instead. I'm not sure what role it was though. hmmm. Maybe as Mr. Blonde. Vic Vega(Michael Madsen) and Vincent Vega(John Travolta) are brothers in Quentin Tarantino's world. Pulp Fiction was put together by a few different scripts QT had going at that time. They could have just said Pulp Fiction happened before Reservoir Dogs and give Madsen a cameo as Blonde. Considering the movie was probably already in production i could see him playing QT's character. I would say Stoltz character but i could not see Madsen playing frantic like Stoltz.

After George Lazenby played James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, he turned down the role when it was offered to him for the next movie. According to him he thought James Bond wouldn't be a relevant character anymore. That the character had worn out it's welcome. Now he admits to regretting the choice. Too bad. I thought he kicked ass as Bond, and I would have liked to see him get satisfactory revenge for the murder of Teresa. On mention of Lazenby, due to him making a film in Australia he was unable to do this fairly awesome role Jesus in Monty Python's Life Of Brian.

I may have overlooked it but: Burt Reynolds couldn't do "Terms of Endearment" (Despite character Garrett Breedlove being created for him) because he was filming "Stroker Ace" so the role went to Jack Nicholson.
Speaking of Reynolds and Nicholson, Burt was considered for Jack's role in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"

Speaking of One flew over the Cuckoo's nest, Kirk Douglas originated the McMurphy role on the stage adaption and thought he would reprise the role on film as he held the rights. He later gave the rights to his son, Michael Douglas. Michael thought he was too old and would cast Jack Nicholson. This is what led to a falling out between the two that lasted a little while.

Not a movie role, but 50 Cent was offered the role of C.J. in GTA: San Andreas. He turned it down, cause he said if he was going to be in a video game, he'd play himself.
GTA: San Andreas was a massive hit while the two 50 Cent games (particularly the first) have been subject to a lot of ridicule.

A lot of critical ridicule but they've sold. The second has improved it's mechanical problems and has gotten good press for it.

Quentin Tarantino wanted James Woods to play a role in Reservoir Dogs, and made him five different cash offers. Woods' agent refused the offers without ever mentioning it to Woods as the sums offered were well below what Woods would usually receive. When Tarantino and Woods later met for the first time, Woods learned of the offer and was annoyed enough to get a new agent. Tarantino avoided telling Woods which role he was offered "because the actor who played the role was magnificent anyway". It is widely accepted that the role that Tarantino was referring to was Mr. Orange. I actually could not picture Woods as Mr. Orange. Definetley Mr. Pink though. I couldn't picture him in either of those roles, though I could definitely see him as Mr. White (though he could hardly compare to Keitel).

Star Wars/Nightmare on Elm Street cross-over film...NOW!! What does Vader have in his nightmares, though? Ehhh...maybe Freddy shows him that he'll be played by Hayden Christensen?

Eddie Murphy in an interview years ago said: "When I was doing Trading Places with Day Aykroyd, he was telling me about this script he was working on about guys that go around catching ghosts. He said he wanted me to be in it. I was like, "Catching ghosts? Get the f*** outta here." So, I guess that would be dumb. Although Ernie Hudson was awesome. In fairness, unless the role was substantially larger (and maybe it was in an earlier draft?), it wouldn't have that big a deal for Murphy. Winston Zedemore doesn't even show up until the 2nd half of the movie, and he's mostly the conscientious everyman lingering in the background, with a few sharp lines. Murphy would have needed way more camera time to do his thing properly.

In the earliest draft from Aykroyd, it would've have been a trio of himself, John Belushi and Eddie Murphy. If cast as Winston, he would've been hired much earlier, early enough to have been part of the Slimer hunt and would've been the one slimed not Venkman.
Murphy was filming Beverly Hills Cop at the time. Sylvester Stallone was cast to be cast in the lead with Michael as his brother and Jenny as the love interest. Two weeks before filming he left and the script was patched together from previous drafts and ad-libs by Murphy and the rest of the cast when needed.
Stallone had reworked the script to the point where the studio refused to film that. He left and took his ideas and made Cobra.

Sandra Bullock was going to play Hillary Swank's role in 'Million Dollar Baby' but Bullock was busy making 'Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous'.
Now thats a HUGE mistake right there.

Al Pacino I believe was offered the role of Han Solo.
Bruce Willis turned down the lead male role in Ghost.

According to a Halloween documentary I saw once, Christopher Lee was originally offered the part of Dr. Loomis but turned it down. He later said he deeply regretted not taking it.

I heard that Belushi was considered to be Peter Venkman before his death. I also heard that Eddie Murphy was going to play a character called "Ramsey." Where does Harold Ramis fit it? Did Aykroyd write the initial script and then brought in Ramis later? On a side note, Nicole Kidman turned down the role of "Ulla" in "The Producers." That ultimately went to Uma Thurman. I heard it was b/c she didn't want to do another musical after "Moulin Rouge" and that she was set to do a movie in Austrailia called "Eucalyptus." That worked out well because Uma knocked it out of the park. I also read Amy Poehler was cast as Veronica Corningstone in "Anchorman" while John C. Reilly was supposed to play Champ Kind. Reilly decided to do "The Aviator" instead while I think Poehler was simply cast aside in favor of Christian Applegate.

That was Wyatt Earp that Madsen starred in. Both Tombstone and Wyatt Earp seemed to come out at the same time.

I mean who would turn down a chance to star in a Martin Scorsese film. And speaking of turning down Scorsese: Al Pacino and CSI's William Peterson turned down roles in Goodfellas. While Goodfellas stars Ray Liotta and Robert De Niro turned down The Departed. Sean Young turned down Casino. Jonathan Rhys Meyers had to turn down Gangs of New York because of other commitments. Same story with Barry Pepper with The Aviator. Also dropping out of The Aviator was Gwyneth Paltrow who turned down the Ava Gardner role. EDIT: While looking up Cape Fear's trivia page on imdb I found this interesting entry: Director Martin Scorsese's first choice for the role of Bowden was Harrison Ford. He had Robert De Niro call Ford to try convincing him to take the part.
