Well heck, it's like they say: The Nazis are just about the only "safe" villains left, you know? Nazis and evil clowns. Combine them and you've got yourself an amazingly evil movie.

Yeah, I realized that too...just wondered if depicting them getting slaughtered by a white government agent would be too "un-PC" in this day and age, you know? It's almost like, everyone is SO sensitive nowadays to every little percieved thing. And the more I looked into it, the more articles I found that were outraged over the game's NERVE to have all the enemies be black, and for Chris Redfield to be white, and yadda yadda yadda....it's just like, I feel like asking these people who wrote the article, "have you even PLAYED the game? The villagers are infected with this parasite that makes them evil...THEY'RE NOT EVEN THE REAL DAMN ENEMIES!!!"
If anything, the Tricell Corp. are the true enemies....not the Africans. Chris is fighting to HELP the villagers!
Which brings me back to horror films....how long will it be before we get cries of racism or exclusion in the genre? I mean, outside of Candyman and Blacula, most of the big bad horror villains are white, or in the case of the recent J-horror surge, Asian. I mean, I know it's a touchy subject, but how do you think that people would react if, say, in the next Nightmare on Elm St. reboot, they made Nancy a black girl?

I'd personally have no problem with Nancy being black as long as the actress is able to pull off the part. If cast just because of race...then yeah, not cool, but if it's earned then it's deserved.
Random thing I just wondered: I remember watching "Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horrors" but don't recall if true or not...do predominantly black horror movies have Token White Guys? If so, are they killed off first?

LOL....I was watching a friend play this on XBOX live, and we bumped into this dude that was complaining that Sheva wasn't black ENOUGH. You could turn her as dark as Manute Bol, and STILL people would scream because she's the SIDEKICK, or she's a WOMAN, or what the hell ever else that they can scream about. You'll never please everyone, is what I have come away from this particular episode having learned.

Heh...we never found out, because once they finished the level, my buddy just quit on the guy, cause he couldn't STAND to listen to him complain any more. Seriously, it was a non stop barrage about Sheva....her color, her clothes, her melee abilities....the dude just would NOT shut up. On a lighter note, after playing the game, I wonder if they modeled Sheva on Thandie Newton? If not, the resemblance is UNCANNY.

I have a question about the Saw series on DVD. I have both the theatrical and uncut editions of the first three movies on DVD because each version has different extra features. However I believe that changed with Saw IV. Am I correct that the extra features on the uncut editions of Saw IV and V are identical to the theatrical versions of those films on DVD? That appears to be the case. I can speak for the SAW V release as in the UK and Ireland, SAW IV just got it's 2 disc unrated release (Saw V has just been released as the standard 1 disc extreme edition here about a month ago- with minimal feautes I might add). The feautres appear to be largely the same (according to wikipedia anyways) with one or two extras that the standard release didn't have, ie. A trailer for the video game Condemned 2: Bloodshot and A hidden game in the special features menu of the Blu-Ray version.

Hey TR I just watched Hauting in Conneticutt And I was wondering if you could clear something up for me Was the Doctor supposed to be evil? That's the way I took it. After all, he was blatantly using his assistant for personal gain (proving that spirituality exists, etc.), in addition to the more obvious crime of not giving the bodies a proper burial, which is what sets the wheels of the haunting in motion to begin with. I was just wondering because I still don't get what the Priest meant ''They would be Unseen''

Man, what's up with everybody changing their names on me? This is like that Twilight Zone where the guy wakes up and he's the same but everybody else is different. Which one was that? Ah, they were all like that. If you get that...you get a cookie. ADDED: I just got April Fool'd. Just noticed the edited version of "Off Topic." Good stuff, everybody.

Earlier tonight, I decided I needed to watch "Zombie Nightmare" for inspiration (I'm writing a very 80s-inspired script at the moment, as I mentioned a page or two ago). While the film DID point out to me that I had missed something pretty important on the logic radar in my script (I admit my script is supposed to be stupid, but not mind-shatteringly so), I also decided to say "to hell with it" and review this little movie right here.
At some point in what appears to be The 50s, a baseball coach and all-around good guy is murdered by hoodlums in front of his wife and son, while trying to prevent said hoodlums from raping a young Haitian woman. Several years later (in The 80s), that baseball coach's son is now long-haired muscleman Tony (played by bodybuilder and heavy metal musician Jon Mikl Thor). On his way home from buying groceries and thwarting a stick-up, Tony is accidentally run-down by a group of snot-nosed juveniles who were club-hopping at the time. The ringleader of these teens is a total douchebag, who actually got off on the thrill of running over a total stranger, and the rest of the kids don't want any trouble, so they just keep on driving as though nothing happened.
Well, Tony's poor mom finds out that something certainly did happen to her son, and in her grief and frustration, decides her son deserves revenge. Tony's mom puts in a call to that Haitian woman from earlier, and that woman uses her voodoo (and an incomprehensible staccato vocal pattern) to resurrect Tony as a ZOMBIE!
Tony proceeds to slaughter those that slaughtered him first (utilizing his baseball bat), and soon the cops are trying to figure out who is murdering local teens. Well, one cop is trying to figure that out...his Chief of Police (played by Adam West of all people) just wants this whole strange case wrapped up as soon as possible. Especially considering the Chief's connection to the Haitian Voodoo Priestess and the undead slugger's father (specifically, the Chief was one of those 1950s hoodlums I mentioned at the beginning). Will the undead Tony have his revenge? Can the young cop unravel the mystery of the murders? Can the Police Chief bury his past once and for all...or will his past end up burying him?!
What we have here is a pretty fun chunk of 1980s cheese. The makeup effects are totally amateurish, as Jon Mikl Thor runs around in horrible "monster gloves" and his face makeup is only a step or two above a K-Mart halloween mask. The acting, writing, and direction all follow suit, with wild voodoo-ish histrionics, corny dialogue that could only be created and uttered in the 80s, and no effort made to make any of Thor's punches, slams, and ball-bat swings look like they connect with anything. And even the movie's own stupidity loses steam in the middle, before the (sort of) thrilling climax.
Still though, as corny and awful as the picture is (in a fun way), the EVIL characters are suitably unlikeable, and the good guys, while a bit misguided (what with the voodoo and zombie murdering going on), are still sort of endearing. Another plus for this movie is a soundtrack chock full of METAL, including an opening credit sequence set to Motorhead's "Ace of Spades," as well as tracks by Thor himself, among others. And hell, it's got Adam West during a lowpoint in his career, and a pre-"Wayne's World" Tia Carrere.
2.9 stars out of 5, and those stars are for all the wrong reasons.

ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE actually sounds like it might be a fun slice of cheese....something to pop in when the ol' cablebox fails ya. I think the same could be said of the film I'm about to review, as well..... AUTOPSY (2008) Starring Robert Patrick, Jessica Lowndes and Michael Bowen AUTOPSY tells the tale of four friends (plus the Russian youth they hook up with) who are simply out for a good time at Mardi Gras, and end up running head first into unspeakable evil. Emily (Lowndes) and her boyfriend Bobby (Ross Kohn) are the quintessential cute couple, the exact opposite of squabbling, broken-up Clare (Ashley Schneider) and Jude (Ross McCall). However, all they really want to do is get as drunk, and as high as humanly possible and blow off some steam. So in other words, the perfect slasher movie cast. The real unfortunate victim here is Andrey (Arcadiy Golubovich), who gets roped into the quartet's drug and drink binge by Jude. Literally, they just grab the guy off the street and haul him into the group....where he, for his part wastes no time in putting the moves on Clare, much to Jude's dismay. In short order, our group decides to split downtown N'awlins, and head for other party locations. They get behind the wheel of a car, and before you can snap your fingers, they've gotten into a hideous accident. What's worse, they discover that they've actually run over a man in a hospital gown, who Clare insists just "came out of nowhere!" Perplexed, and in a panic, Emily decides to be the responsible one and dial 911....but strangely enough, though her cell doesn't get a signal from her location, an ambulance just happens to pull up, as if summoned by God himself. Thinking that this is just a happy coincidence, the group eagerly turns the injured pedestrian over to the paramedics...but the medics aren't satisfied with that. They think the entire group needs to come in to be checked out, and forcefully INSIST that the kids ride along with the injured man, who is showing signs of resisting these medics. So the group is taken to Mercy Hospital, which is just about SCREAMING out "sinister purposes!" to them, and are admitted by the creepy charge nurse (Jeneete Goldstein) who tells them that Dr. Benway (Robert Patrick, faring better here than he did in Cena's MARINE) will see them in short order. Of course, the group takes no notice that the hospital, save for them, is completely deserted, and that normal signs of life are absent. It is only when Bobby collapses and is rushed into the OR, later to dissappear, that Emily becomes suspicious and goes in search of him in particular, and answers in general. Folks, I am going to be bluntly honest with you here....AUTOPSY is one of Roger Ebert's self-described "dead teenager" movies, where the script requires the youthful cast to do something mind bogglingly stupid just to move the plot along. In fact, it not only requires it, without the teens doing said stupid thing, there would be NO movie. That being said, you should be prepared, in this particular film, for the young people to do MANY incredibly foolish things for no other sake than the plot requires it . This doesn't make AUTOPSY a bad movie, because in all honesty, I had fun with it. It's a competently made horror film, and it actually got me to jump one or two times. The acting is decent, and the lighting and settings are effectively creepy and spooky. In particular, I think Robert Patrick did an excellent job of bringing Benway to life and making him a very flawed, very human character. All in all, throw in some very nasty, very grisly gore scenes, and AUTOPSY is above average. I'd still say to check it out, mainly because there's not much else out there right now, and also because it's worth a look. *** out of five.

I knew of the Zombie Nightmare episode of MST3K, but I haven't seen it. I hear it's going to be on the next boxed set of MST episodes.
And the actual Zombie Nightmare movie is supposed to be getting a DVD release from Code Red sometime at the end of the year. Code Red is awesome for lining up a crapload of extras for corny 80s movies (they released Don't Go In the Woods...Alone on DVD).
Autopsy sounds like it might be fun, 'Schach. I may have to check that out, eventually.

My favorite was the Drew Carey one where he was the last man on earth and he was looking at his Playboy collection until his glasses break!
