I also have some sad news as well......Lou Perryman of TCM2 was murdered
Lou Perryman, perhaps best known to fans as "L.G." from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, was found dead by police in his South Austin home after being tipped off to the crime by the suspect himself.
It's always terrible to lose someone. This case is made even more tragic in that Lou was taken from his friends and family before his time. Those that knew him personally regarded him as a loving and happy person, and his Facebook page has quickly filled up with condolences and farewells.
His daughter Jennifer updated his Facebook status with this message:
"This is Lou's daughter, Jennifer. My Dad died on Wednesday, April 1. He was a wonderful man and was so happy to have you all in his life. He was blessed."
Shock Till You Drop received word back from Jennifer with a link to a local site regarding Lou Perryman's murder.
According to an article posted here, suspect Seth Christopher Tatum has a history of violent crime to his name. Family members say Seth was abusive and unstable. His mother commented that he was turned down for treatment just prior to the incident due to not having insurance.
MyFoxAustin.com reported that earlier that day Tatum had brutally attacked his roommate, lacerating his hands and face and fracturing his skull. They also note that Seth was released from prison in November where he was serving time for robbery.
There is as of yet no word about Seth's motive or if he even knew Lou. Our sincere condolences go out to Lou's family and friends.

I am very excited by this news, and hope that they deliver a script worthy of Jackie Earle's talents. Not trying to make it sound like he's a LEGENDARY actor, but I think he IS a better caliber of actor than usually takes roles like these.

I've never seen Watchmen, so I can't really comment on Haley's talents, but, based on what's already known about the film, and my general distaste for the idea, this may be the first horror remake in a while that I'm just not going to bother with, sorry to say.

I'm very leery of it, but I am hopeful that with Haley on board, this won't be a total trainwreck.

Legendary actors have played Frankenstein and Dracula, and I would never put Jackie Earle above Christopher Lee or Karloff. In other news.....here's a pic from Zombie's upcoming H2: HALLOWEEN 2 film. This is Scout Taylor Compton, who's playing Laurie Strode. Why she looks like a prosti-tot version of Rob's wife, I have no idea. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

Ugh, I couldn't stand her portrayal of Laurie in the Halloween remake. Unlike JLC's Laurie in the original, I couldn't wait for her to die.

Sweet Sixteen (1983) Directed by Jim Sotos I have a bunch of horror dvds I have been ignoring and I figure, "what the hell? I might as well review and help guide my horror loving friends in the right direction." So with that thought in my mind I popped in Sweet Sixteen into the PS3. Melissa is the new girl in a small town in Texas. Of course as if moving to a new town wasn't hard enough mysterious murders start taking place around Melissa. Whose behind these deplorable murders? The indians? Leatherface? The movie differs from your typical slasher fare in that the script tends to be more mystery than "horror". Sure, you get the killer pov shots and eerie synth music, but it never really feels like a typical slasher film. Almost like the writer wanted to write a mystery novel but half way through decided to turn it into a script instead. One word about the dvd. I've never purchased another Code Red dvd so I cannot attest to their usual dvd transfers, but this film is rough looking. Like 1980's vhs bought from the $2 dollar bin at blockbuster rough looking. However, you can't blame code red because they worked with what source material they were given. Besides as horror fans we know we have to be thankful for what we were given. You're not going to be seeing a criterion edition of Sweet Sixteen anytime soon. The extras are plentiful as well including the original theatricial cut of the film, commentary, trailer, interview with two of the actors from the film, and film introduction. Now my tribute (or ripoff) to Joe Bob Briggs: 6 boobies. 1 ass. 6 deaths. Gratuitous Neckerchief. Indian Matt Hardy. Horror regulars Michael Pataki and Dana Sue Kimmell show up. Slow motion blowing. One kick to the nuts. Very little gore. ** stars out of 5. Alternate review - retroslashers.net/review_sweet16.htm

Actually, the terrible transfer was not Code Red's fault. Blame the transfer company they enlisted - they botched the entire process completely, from framing it incorrectly to the horrible image quality. CR were extremely upset about the whole thing, and even contemplated shelving the entire release. It was due to fan demand that it came out. I own Don't Go In The Woods, also released by Code Red, and considering the film's origins, they did an absolutely fantastic job with the image and sound. So, like I said before, blame the transfer company for Sweet Sixteen - it's their fault.

It's a shame this happened to CR because they perform a service that fewer dvd companies are doing nowadays...releasing little known horror films back into the public.

I love that Code Red sticks with the old fashioned cover art. Just take a look at some of Paramount's updated art to get an appreciation for the CR releases.

Firstly, for Jackie Earle, good for him - he was excellent in Watchmen, and will most definitely make a great Krueger. He was admittedly a name that I had never thought of when I engaged in the numerous fantasy casting sessions for the part, but the second he began floating around in connection to this movie, it immediately clicked. In regards to the "too good to play Freddy" comment, I have to politely disagree - the role of Freddy is one that A LOT of actors could hit an absolute home run with. If I were an actor, I would be clamoring for the role; it's a chance to be remembered forever, not unlike the various actors who have played James Bond. Because, let's face it, Freddy will be around forever.
As for H2...absolutely hated Laurie the first time around, sure that it won't change much. I'd say more but I'm in a good mood. ;D
And Lou Perryman - R.I.P.

I refuse to call it H2, by the way. That is the name of a CAR, not a damn movie, Rob.

STAGE FRIGHT(1987) Directed by Michele Soavi. Italians are known lots of things: spaghetti, mafia dons, and odd films. It is in that regard I give my second review of the night, Stagefright. I know what your thinking, "Fulci, if we've seen one movie about stages coming to life and killing we've seen them all." It's not about that at all though. You see a group of actors are working late into the night for a musical about a mass murder called the nite owl. When the lead actress hurts herself and leaves to go find a doctor. Unfortunately for her (and lucky for us), the closest medical facility is a mental asylum. Where she and her friend soon learn of a actor held at the facility, who instead of going into directing, just murdered a bunch of people. As you can guess the killer breaks out and follows the actress and her friend back to the theatre where mischief ensues. Tribute to Joe Bob time: 2 breasts (just barely). 9 deaths. Dance Fu. Gratiutous stubble. Chase through the rafters. Moderate levels of gore. *** out of 5. Recommend. Alternate Review: www.joblo.com/arrow/reviews.php?id=791Also, I picked up some juicy tidbits thanks to our friends over at retro slashers. and the really good news...NIGHT OF THE CREEPS COMING TO DVD!:

Night of the Creeps FINALLY getting a DVD release is indeed awesome, awesome news: "Sir, if you don't mind me asking, what is the point of this conversation?" Yeah....you don't wanna start talking about Zombie's Halloween 2 if you wanna STAY in a good mood. I refuse to call it H2, by the way. That is the name of a CAR, not a damn movie, Rob. There's my sig quote for the next thread. Good stuff, Boobz.
