I can't put my finger on it, but Randy Orton has become one of the most interesting wrestlers in the WWE. A year ago I didn't give a damn about what Orton did really. Is it his Voices entrance music, I.E.D. or his new tattoos? Maybe its simply because he's so improved overall?

People have always loved wrestling "stables". Put anyone in a stable and we'll watch it - I watched the Million Dollar Man's corporation in '94-'95 when he acquired the likes of Tatanka, Bam-Bam Bigelow, Nikolai Volkoff, IRS, Kama and King-Kong Bundy. At that time, they were a bunch of low-to-mid card guys; but as a stable, they were worth watching.

Sometimes it just happens
I thought the Rock was boring and bland...until he wasn't
I thought Austin wasn't anything special...until he was
I didn't think Cena would ever make it...until he did
Sometimes it just all comes together, and it sure as hell did for Randy.

I think it's a combination of everything. A likely contributing factor to him being so much better now is that he has a character that he's really into and able to connect with. People badmouth his face run, but that was more WWE's fault than his. Think of it in movie casting terms - not every actor is good at any role. You cast actors based on what roles they are the best at. Orton isn't good at being a pandering babyface, so his performance came off rather weak.

You just look at the guy year to year, and something is always different. Sometimes for the better, sometimes now. 03 to 04 he made unreal improvements. 05 ... meh. In 06 he started climbing again but barely. Spring and Summer of 07 he started planting the seeds with the Shawn and RVD concussion angles for the character he has today. In 08 the Age of Orton helped catpult him back to where he SHOULD have been in late 04, and this year? He's one of THE guys. He screams superstar, all you have to do is listen to the crowds.

I've always thought that Orton has always been special.
Not as big as he is NOW, granted, but it's not like he was ever really at the bottom of the card.

He had the uber generic CAW look that a lot of the younger guys seem to have when they break in, accompanied by a simular attitude thats just not interesting. He's grown into a character that is uniqe from the fray.

Orton always showed flashes of brilliance, but in 2004 they gave him the belt way too soon and really floundered up until his partnership with Edge and from there he really took off. Around the spring of 2007 you could really see him making the metamorphosis into a top heel. Its been a treat to watch him improve every time out there. He went from being a good hand in the ring to truly something special.

Its the tattoos.
Or its the fact that he has improved his promos and in-ring ability by leaps and bounds over the years. I never used to really like him, but over the past few months he's been the best thing going in the WWE. It looks like the ratings are starting to reflect that too.

Not a big fan, but I'd say one of the factors that make him seem more like a threat is his theme music, definitely reflective of his personality than the previous "Burn in My Light" theme he had.
